Sat on the train. Pregnant woman gets on the train, looks at the empty seat next to me and says 'I'm pregnant, can I sit here?' - I gave her a bit of a bewildered look as the seat was totally empty, my bag wasn't on it, not sure what her being pregnant has to do with it! Of course I said 'sure'. She then proceeded to lift up her top and rub cream all over her belly. Found this really quite odd but each to their own. Few weird looks from the carriage. Then the pregnancy notes came out which she started fanning herself with (and is still fanning herself with), in the process fanning me also and wafting my hair in my face. I'm currently ignoring this as understand that she's probably very hot. She felt the need to tell me 'sorry, I'm pregnant' so she's aware that she's potentially being a bit annoying. Thing is, I'm pregnant too, and finding myself to be the most irritable, cranky woman on earth at the moment. WIBU to ask her to stop fanning my face or would this be incredibly rude of me? AIBU to even be irritated by this woman or am I just a massive grouch?!

People are weird.

TheBogWitchIsBack · 01/06/2018 08:28

I wouldn't be irritated by it but I'd find it really odd. I'd probably be quite amused at all the effort she made to draw attention to the fact she was pregnant.
Was she very noticeably pregnant? Maybe it's early days, first pregnancy and she just wants to tell the world! Still bonkers!

Lanaa · 01/06/2018 08:28

YABU OP. Don't you realise that she's the first person ever to become pregnant and the fact that her body is performing this miraculous, incredible, amaaaaaaaazing feat of creating a new tiny human is incredibly tiring.

You need to be grateful that she's doing it all first and paving the way for you and all the women who became preggers after her.

miae · 01/06/2018 08:30

@TheBogWitchIsBack I'm guessing she's quite far gone as has a fairly large bump! I'm only 18 weeks so whilst I'm showing I just look a bit fat! I am mostly irritated by the face fanning but a bit scared about what she'd say if I asked her to stop...

She sounds like she is excited about being pregnant and needs to tell everyone, which is quite sweet I suppose.
I can understand your irritation however.

ipswichwitch · 01/06/2018 08:31

I don’t get the need to be rubbing cream into her belly on a train, but then people do some weird shit on public transport. She might be one of those women who think they’re the only one who has ever been pregnant and everything is all about them because they’re PREGNANT. Yes I’ve been lucky enough to come across a couple of women who go on like this.

ipswichwitch · 01/06/2018 08:32

Cross posted with Lanaa there. She’s clearly met the same women as me Grin

Laiste · 01/06/2018 08:33

Unbelievable behavior.

puppywithattitude · 01/06/2018 08:34

Yes, the cream on the belly thing is a bit extreme.

miae · 01/06/2018 08:34

Praying she doesn't log on to mn and read this post whilst I'm still sat next to her! Confused

Lanaa · 01/06/2018 08:39

It would be hilarious if she did! @ipswichwitch We probably know the same people. I can understand where they're coming from but it gets tiring rather quickly.

miae · 01/06/2018 08:47

Don't get me wrong I love to subtly show off that I'm pg. I wear form fitting clothes for example. I just find the belly creaming and telling people every 5 mins you're pregnant a bit much! Maybe I'm just miserable 🙈

Littletinyraindrops · 01/06/2018 08:53

I'd let her know it's pissing you off, I've no idea why she seems to think she's exempt from being a considerate fellow passenger.

Ask if she wants to swap seats so the breeze isn't getting on your face, as you find it annoying... And, you know, you're pregnant too.

miae · 01/06/2018 10:22

@Littletinyraindrops she ended up in deep conversation with a woman in front of her about her pregnancy and birth plans. Book went away and headphones went on pretty pronto!

Lucky you to have met the only person to ever be pregnant!

I've met a few of these too, however the one that won hands down was at my antenatal class. Arrived and asked for the woman sat nearest the door to move because she was pregnant doncha know. It certainly kept me amused throughout all the classes. (And no, it was a healthy straightforward pregnancy, so she didn't need special treatment above other pregnant women).

I also had the luck to share a postnatal ward with the only woman to have ever given birth, the rest of us were clearly only there for a laugh.

miae · 01/06/2018 14:20

@Thehogfather not just me then!

"Yes, woohoo, you're pregnant, so am I, do you want a medal?" Hmm

resignedtoresigning · 01/06/2018 14:24

Got on a packed train the other day, pregnant woman on inside seat. Her case was where my legs would go on the outside seat. Apparently she couldn't put it in the rack because she was pregnant. Offered to do it for her, no because then she wouldnt be able to get it down because she was pregnant. Someone else pointed out that she could put it in the rack at the end of the carriage and offered to do it for her..oh no can't do that I'm pregnant. Some people are just weird. So basically she had 2 seats while people were stood up just because she was pregnant. Rah.

Kursk · 01/06/2018 14:26

It’s public transport, it’s never going to be comfortable, or fun. So no that wouldn’t bother me to much because I would be expecting something like that to happen.

Olddear · 01/06/2018 14:41

You would be expecting a woman to be rubbing cream on her stomach on public transport?

blackteasplease · 01/06/2018 14:52

Really weird though a bit funny really!

I had a similar experience on easyjet before they introduced seat reservations. i was sat with exh in a row close to emergency exit seats but not in it as he was on crutches. Two blokes get on and motion towards the emergency exit (extra leg room) seats sayinh "oh my brother and I are both over 6' we need to sit here" to the stewardess. Stewardess points out the seats are completely free! They clearly just wanted special treatment for their oh so special height!

Basta · 01/06/2018 14:55

Some people just love drawing attention to themselves and getting special treatment because they're so, er, special. Really winds me up.

RoseWhiteTips · 01/06/2018 15:03

Ugh. Attention seeker.

RoseWhiteTips · 01/06/2018 15:04

Cream on her stomach. Just 🤮

miae · 01/06/2018 15:04

@RoseWhiteTips my reaction exactly!! Shock
