AIBU to not be able to live with this?

I've paid a load of money to get my bathroom tiled and the tiler has left this monstrocity of a tile in the middle of the floor. It's been a week and I can't bear to look at it. How could he have thought it was acceptable?

Please someone tell me it doesn't look odd and I can grow to live the weird white splurge? My plumber Dad has been primed that he may have to attempt to replace it but the finish is unlikely to be as good as I originally had. Right now I just want to rip up the whole floor and start again.

It just looks like natural stone.

Butterflykissess · 01/06/2018 00:40

Why didn't you say something to them at the time?

KirstenRaymonde · 01/06/2018 00:40

There’s white bits on the other stones?

HackedOffSeller · 01/06/2018 00:43

I would have done but I went away as I only have one bathroom. I did ask for lots of photos but I got 2 half arsed blurry ones which didn't show the floor. I was expecting someone to have spotted it but it turns out my Dad is a bit colour blind and can't see the issue. Learnt my lesson on this one.

I can’t see anything wrong - it’s just the natural pattern of the stone. Don’t take it up, it’s a good finish. Just give it a few weeks and you won’t even notice it anymore.

wurlycurly · 01/06/2018 00:45

Learn to love it. This is just the sort of thing that irks me until
I realise that I haven’t looked at.it in weeks. Google ‘wabi sabi’ And embrace the imperfection

HackedOffSeller · 01/06/2018 00:46

I will have to remind myself "it's natural stone" (it isn't Smile) it's not a weird dirty stain. It's very difficult with my slight OCD. It's making me feel a bit twitchy. I can't even begin to think about how my walls are wonky. I wish it didn't make my heart race every time I see it (it's currently hidden under a mat, but I know it's lurking under there). (I think I have issuesConfused)

I'm with you though op. It would really bother me aswell.

HackedOffSeller · 01/06/2018 00:48

Wabi sabi. I was looking for something like that last night. Was googling "how yo accept things I can't change but really annoy me".

OP posts:
dusking · 01/06/2018 00:51

That would really bother me too OP, but it’s done now. I’d get a really pretty mat or something to put over it!

TimeToDash · 01/06/2018 00:58

That would bug me,it's not the same type of variation as the others - looks like Tipp-ex has been spilt on it!

Skittlesandbeer · 01/06/2018 01:06

Also look up Kintsukuroi. Japanese repairs to broken pottery objects, makes them more valuable.

I’d actively use this tile to be a reminder of a positive idea (one that’s relevant to your life), or to help inner growth. Since you’re stuck looking at it, you need to find a way to not let it stress you out every time.

If it were me, I’d train myself to play this thought: ‘like this tile, I am strong and useful. I am part of a whole community, but also unique. I celebrate my own difference, and accept my own flaws’

Or I guess you could use it to remind yourself not to book holidays when you have tradesmen in! Grin

gillybombilly · 01/06/2018 01:07

I sympathise, OP. Similar happened to me when we put travertine tiles on the kitchen floor. One tile in front of the fridge freezer looks like it has a piece of chewing gum trodden into it, and another (just as you walk into the kitchen) has a small outline which is the double of a my little pony character!
I'm oblivious to them now, though, and just chuckle at the horse tile. Hopefully you will get used to it in time if you decide to leave it.

Faroutbrussel · 01/06/2018 01:08

It would bother me too, and this sort of thing is the reason my much needed renovations have been put off for so long as no looking forward to the stress of it,

HackedOffSeller · 01/06/2018 01:09

It literally raises my heart rate when I see it, in person and in photo form. This is why I'm awake at 1am as I'm so stressed out by it. I do think it will have to come up but the area will probably not be as flat. So do I live with the weird stain or a slightly wonky tile?

It's a lovely piece of imperfection that makes stone exactly what it is ...i would say learn to love it
I think it looks lovely

ijustwannadance · 01/06/2018 01:20

Yeh, it would piss me off too.
Next time pick plain tiles.

TattyCat · 01/06/2018 01:21

Live with it. Look at it as 'lived in'. That there stone you're blaming for your troubles has had a hard time getting to be so imperfect. It's natural and so has a story to tell.

I LOVE wonky walls and sloping floors. It tells a story. If you can change your mindset and embrace imperfections...

In the great scheme of things, it matters not one jot. Learn to love it. Make that mark your friend!!

HackedOffSeller · 01/06/2018 01:23

They looked plain in the shop. The display only had plainer versions. The other tiles are fine but it's that one which really should have been rejected.

OP posts:
caringcarer · 01/06/2018 01:23

He is an idiot. He should have kept that tile as a spare. Is it cracked? I would ring him and tell him he will have to come and sort it out as you find it unacceptable. I hope you have not paid yet because if you have it is too late.

TattyCat · 01/06/2018 01:24

Oh, I meant to say...

I went thought this and managed to let some stuff go by deciding to be 'fond' of it. Talk to the mark on the floor. It won't answer you but neither does a dog, and they're therapeutic!! Give it a name Hmm !!

TattyCat · 01/06/2018 01:24

*through, obviously

HackedOffSeller · 01/06/2018 01:26

It isn't cracked and yes he has been paid by my Dad who didn't even notice the problem. In fact multiple people saw the floor and not one of them thought it looked weird. I may name it Martin, after the bloody tiler.

Monty27 · 01/06/2018 01:29

Ask advice on how you can get it to blend in better.

AlexaAmbidextra · 01/06/2018 01:31

It would bother me too. I’d have it redone.
