Apparently so, because I'm running back and forth to the toilet again trying not to puke up from the agony of IBS cramps. I don't even know what it was this time! I tried something new like...4 days ago, which by all standards should have caused a reaction way before today if it was going to. I've also been having that new thing every single day since then so I'm buggered if that's what it was.

I'm sick of my diet being so limited. I'm envious of people who can have SALADS. fucking SALADS. I'd kill to have a salad with green leafy bits and fresh vegetables without having to worry that I'm going to shoot myself to Mars on the toilet later while screaming in pain.

(ftr, I've been to the doctors multiple times and had everything tested - I just have really severe IBS, the worst my particular doctor has seen and they don't give a damn about finding out how to help me so I have to help myself with a boring low FODMAP diet).

I just want pizza. Or garlic bread. Or anything nice.

I suffer with mild IBS symptoms so nothing like you but I would expect to suffer the after 3 bowls of cereal, half a packet of biscuits and a baguette in one day!!

Me too. Just one, maybe two of those and I'd be fine but all five and I'd be suffering.

Chesntoots · 29/05/2018 07:54

Same here. No fruit, veg or salad.

I don't think people undertand when you say you can, for example, got to the pictures and then meal as opposed to the other way round or you might crap yourself and have to sit through 2 hours of agony!

I wish there was something that could be done about it. My life sucks because of it

user1499173618 · 29/05/2018 07:56

Vegetables are easiest to digest and retain most nutrients when braised (ie you eat all the juices): soups, stews, casseroles, fricassées, risotti...

Rainydaydog · 29/05/2018 08:20

Jamboree- why do you feel the op's pain, being coeliac? There's no end of gluten free cake out there, and no need for any kind of pain or symptoms. It's not the same thing

Can't believe this comment!

Juells · 29/05/2018 08:28

My sister has just discovered kefir, and finds that good
she can also eat raw cabbage, but not cooked.

Apple is a killer, if she ever eats a bit she ends up rolling around in agony. IBS is a terrible affliction... 😓

Chesntoots · 29/05/2018 08:29

Vegetables cause me a great deal of problems no matter how they are cooked. I simply cannot eat them.

sar302 · 29/05/2018 08:41

Not unreasonable. I'm coeliac, with IBS and now a bowel prolapse after giving birth. I regularly wonder what in my life I would happily give up (you know, if it worked like that!) rather than risking sh*tting myself in public on a daily basis.Hmm

Gilead · 29/05/2018 08:43

User I have IBD, you are giving dangerous advice. If I ate loads of cooked vegetables, in any of the ways you suggested, I would end up in hospital.

user1499173618 · 29/05/2018 08:48

Gilead - I am not suggesting anyone should eat loads of vegetables! I am merely pointing out that the way you cook vegetables has massive repercussions on their digestibility. There are people who can’t eat any vegetables or fruit ever.

TheDrinksAreOnMe · 29/05/2018 08:54

I know right, and according to the OP this was just in the evening.

It’s one thing to complain you can’t eat certain foods but eating like THAT wouldn’t do anyone any favours

BrutusMcDogface · 29/05/2018 15:14

Why can't you, Rainyday? Should I have said I am a coeliac and have suffered massively, but now I don't eat gluten and I'm fine. If you have IBS, you often don't know what's causing it and you continue to suffer often.

MatildaLovesBooks · 29/05/2018 15:22

I'm sorry you're going through this.

I know almost nothing about IBS. But you could you try Chinese medicines/alternative medicines? Also, is it something in particular, like wheat, that gives you bad symptoms? Could you try free-from products from supermarkets?

littlepeas · 29/05/2018 15:29

I know you said you’ve been checked for everything op, but have they done a colonoscopy? My dsis was told she had severe ibs for years, but has now been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. She had to push a lot to get to this point - I think some doctors are very dismissive of digestive complaints tbh.

sar302 · 29/05/2018 17:01

Brutus: Coeliacs also continue to suffer - accidental glutening, cross contamination from well meaning friends and family, and let's not even go down the rabbit hole of attempting to eat out without being poisoned! Just because you know you need to avoid gluten, doesn't mean it's always possible. They also can't always have what they want - not everything has a substitute. And many coeliacs also suffer with additional digestive disorders.

It is possible to empathise. You're being obtuse.

flowercrow · 29/05/2018 17:19

I'm sorry, OP.
My GERD and IBS have improved massively since starting a high fat, low carb diet. Seems to have worked for others too.
i haven't dared try cauliflower or broccoli yet, mind...

BrutusMcDogface · 29/05/2018 17:46

I am fucking coeliac if you read my above post.

BrutusMcDogface · 29/05/2018 17:48

"I am being obtuse"? You're being a dick. At least a coeliac knows what they need to avoid. And stress doesn't give us symptoms, either.

BrutusMcDogface · 29/05/2018 17:50

Oh and I'm careful enough to not suffer from accidental glutening much (in fact I don't want to tempt fate but it's been years since it's happened to me). Many restaurants even understand cross contamination as long as you tell them you're coeliac, and if necessary, explain that you can't have gluten crumbs touching your food.

sar302 · 29/05/2018 19:11

Being a coeliac and having IBS is not the same - you're absolutely correct. My point however, is that when you have a digestive disorder, it is generally possible to empathise with another person who also has a digestive disorder. I believe that's what Jamboree was doing when you tried (?) to call them out on it.

If you're going to start name calling however, the time for reasonable debate is pretty much done I should imagine....🤷‍♀️

Usernameunknown2 · 29/05/2018 19:52

I really feel for you, i also have bad IBS and strange things like tomatoes set it off. And dairy, i drink non cows milk protein milk i also drink loads of nettle and fennel tea which helps.

My cousin had IBS like yours too, it was so much better pain wise after her appendix was removed and she later went on probiotics.

Usernameunknown2 · 29/05/2018 19:55

Oh and for anyone with constipation IBS, squat toilets are so so much better. Definitely invest in a stool.

Xiaoxiong · 29/05/2018 20:13

I'm so sorry OP. It's so rubbish isn't it, especially when you've been tested and don't quite know what the issue is. My poor old DH and I went out for a nice meal last night - paid the bill and he suddenly got "that" look, said "I'll meet you at the car" and ran for the toilet. I saw him eventually come out of the restaurant and turn straight back around, back to the toilet again. Then when we finally got on the road I had to race back to get him back home to the toilet. It should have been a nice evening but was miserable for him.

With him it's definitely beer, but also a number of mystery ingredients which send him straight to the toilet which he has never been able to identify. (Def not gluten or yeast as bread is fine.)
