Dont want to harm them but im feed up now of this. Weve tried everything...lemon juice, expensive low level noises machines (one got stolen by teenagers as a dare) to name a few. The poo strinks (and the wee) (cats do not bury) and ive a toddler who enjoys this mall match of green. It looks amazing now after our hard work. Please wise mntters give me more advice on what else we can do about this pest. Weve rented for years and finally escapped the rent trap so this tiny garden (think terrace house) is vvvv important to us and its being ruined. Its not foxes etc its cats. I need to know plants cats hate the smell of.

The only thing that has ever worked in my garden is one of those sonic things that is triggered when a cat walks within it's sensor range. You can set the volume and the angle of the sensor. Two of those covered my lawn and borders.

TittyGolightly · 29/05/2018 10:42

Waterpistols get rid of cats very effectively

You have to be there and see them to do this though.

Mia184 · 29/05/2018 10:50

Wolf pee is supposed to work but I have no experience with it www.predatorpeestore.com/cat-repellent.html

Ashedload · 29/05/2018 10:58

Borrow someone’s dog and take it to mess in your neighbours garden to prove a point? They can hardly complain.

pigsDOfly · 29/05/2018 12:06

Love the sound of using wolf pee. I'd love to have a wolf, or several, living in my garden. Not sure how the dog would feel though.

More sensibly, would domestic cats recognise the smell of wolf pee as coming from a dangerous predator seeing as how they originate from different environment: cat originally from deserts, wolves not from deserts.

pigs I live in north Germany and have actually seen one once. There are a few in my area and when one was seen a couple of times in my neighborhood, there was quite a bit of commotion.
I actually like that they have been successfully reintroduced here but there are also quite a few people that want them shot.Sad

UpstartCrow · 29/05/2018 12:36

Does anyone know if an electronic mouse repeller will work on cats? they're half the price.

pigmcpigface · 29/05/2018 12:39

The best solution I have found is to accept the issue. I provide a small patch of nice, bare, soft earth where the cats of the neighbourhood can do their business. It ensures that it's kept in one location, and not all over the lawn, flower beds etc. When planting up beds, I put sticks in every foot or so while plants are small, so that the cats literally can't get in to poo or dig things up.

BlueBug45 · 29/05/2018 12:43

Chilli powder works.

I actually use it as a squirrel deterrent but the cats sniff it and walk off even if they are youngsters. Squirrels on the other hand are stupid.

If you live in an area with a diverse ethnic population then you can find large packets cheap in ethnic stores and supermarket.

The only alternative is to befriend a neighbours' cat preferably a large tomcat and it will keep other cats out of your garden. Female cats - well the ones I know - have a habit of making cat friends.

pawsies · 29/05/2018 13:02

It isn't your responsibility to buy things to keep someone's pet out! Such a ridiculous notion. Unfortunately the UK is filled with irresponsible cat owners who think everyone else should just suffer.

Try and work out who's cat it is and ask them to buy repellents and things to keep THEIR cat away.

pigsDOfly · 29/05/2018 13:38

Mia. I think there's an awful lot of misinformation about wolves. Don't know why they have such a bad press.

How lovely to see one in it's natural habitat, they're such shy creatures and pretty rare now.

Great to hear they're being reintroduced.

helpconfused · 29/05/2018 13:42

I was reading another cat pooh thread recently. My own cat started going in our garden - on the grass. I tried orange peel but that didn't work.
Someone said they don't like male pee. So when my DS went on his potty I threw the wee over the garden (only a small wee which I put a little water in). Surprised to say there has been no pooh since, when before I was picking it up almost daily.

Dahlietta · 29/05/2018 13:54

Poo is spelt pop not pooh.

This made me laugh, but yes, this. Winnie has a lot to answer for.

JacquesHammer · 29/05/2018 13:58

Poo is spelt pop not pooh

Well that's just unfortunate...

bebanjo · 29/05/2018 14:02

Hi op, we used to have this problem.
I got some granules from wilco, smells like garlic. I put some down about 3-4 weeks ago and had no problems since.
Good luck.

lardymclardy · 29/05/2018 14:38

Keep it in your fucking house and deal with it’s shit yourself.

I didn't want the cat, I didn't fucking ask for the cat. I've got the cat and no I am not going to keep it indoors.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 29/05/2018 14:40

Used teabags with Citronella essential oil. Dot them around the garden and top them up occasionally.

sugarnotsweetener · 29/05/2018 14:44

not RTFT but i got the motion sensored water sprayers from amazon after asking this on my own thread a few weeks ago.

Also got one of the noise things which is motion activated - touch wood not seen a cat poo since.

Not sure which is working but both are working fantastically and not had a single instance since my husband set them up.

TittyGolightly · 29/05/2018 15:02

How very neighbourly. Hmm

lardymclardy · 29/05/2018 15:36

Mine is one of 5 local cats - terraced housing all backing onto each other. When I said honestly - I meant it. I don't wish my neighbours to be having problems because of my cat. I've taken some things on board with this thread and am happy to have a chat with next door and cover any costs.

Sorry @TittyGolightly if this doesn't fit your assumption of me. Like I give a shit.

pineapplecrush · 29/05/2018 15:39

We are surrounded by cats and have mess deposited in our front and back gardens daily. I can tell when they have found a new place as I see flies swarming around when I go out and can smell it (particularly revolting in hot weather). Orange peel seemed to work but it's hard to keep doing and you need to have a lot of oranges! Just bought some cat repellent from Wilko which seems to work, it's time consuming keeping on top of it all. I also try the garden hose if I manage to see any in the garden.

whywontteenswearcoats · 29/05/2018 22:02

I clicked on this thread as we have the same problem and I was really hoping for some tips. Don't get a dog. I've twice in the space of a week or so caught our spaniel digging up the cat shit in the garden and eating it. I suppose that does solve the problem but it is vomit inducing

Bojangles33 · 29/05/2018 22:09

I think I might have the only cats in the world who poo in their own garden.

lardymclardy · 30/05/2018 16:44

Aargh whywont - that really is vomit inducing.

Thanks for the tips pineapple, I'll buy my neighbour a bottle of the wilko stuff. That's if she doesn't get her hose on first - the cat often comes sprinting in looking shocked so I expect she may be giving her a squirt from something Grin
