To think 22 months is too soon to drop all naps?

Dc has just decided no more day time nap!
Is now awake from 7:30 am - 9:30 pm!

Sob, sob!

Surely, this is too young???

Both mine stopped at 18 months!

The child decides

gluteustothemaximus · 28/05/2018 12:37

Mine all dropped them young. I remember reading they were still supposed to have naps up until 3 or 4 years! Mine hadn’t read that bit.

Sometimes they might not need it every day, but every other? Or every few days?

My 2 year old has dropped his fully, but still sleeps at random times if we go for a walk later. Which then screws up bedtime, but, you know, all part of the fun Grin

ijustwannadance · 28/05/2018 12:38

Kids are pretty good at self regulating.
You're lucky you got til almost 2!

ingenvillvetavardukoptdintroja · 28/05/2018 12:40

Mine stopped at same age.... But did always sleep 7pm - 8am every night. Swings and roundabouts!

MrsHappyAndMrCool · 28/05/2018 12:41

Like Confusedbeetle said “the child decides” Smile my 6 year old DS still has an afternoon nap, on the weekend and during school holiday periods and I’m pretty sure he would have one at school if they let him.

YearOfYouRemember · 28/05/2018 12:42

Ime it is young as mine were napoing at four but he won't be able to manage 14 hour days for long …

mrsFruitLoops · 28/05/2018 12:42

My dd dropped hers at about 12 months.... though she also went from waking every 2 hours through the night to sleeping through so no naps was actually better for my sanity lol

fc301 · 28/05/2018 12:44

Due to my ill health we had a routine of sitting down, feet up, telly on, cuddles for 2 hours in the afternoon. This could be your saviour maybe?
At the time I felt very guilty but looking back I have fond memories of being 'available' to them during this time.

BeverlyGoldberg · 28/05/2018 13:31

It's varied for us. She still napped at nursery until she was 3. If she requests a nap at nursery they'll still let her but she gets carried away playing and had severe FOMO!

At home she stopped around 2 but will still have a crafty nap if she's dozy.

We've just gone with what she wants although we'll encourage her to stay awake if we know she'll struggle to sleep later.

Nomad86 · 28/05/2018 13:36

First one stopped at 18 months. She never napped for more than an hour though.

hotmessmom82 · 28/05/2018 13:42

My eldest stopped at 18 months but my youngest is now 3 and still needs one. Both scenarios are equally annoying to be honest.

melissasummerfield · 28/05/2018 13:48

My eldest stopped at 15 months 😩 but I have a friend who still puts her 3yo down down for a nap!

Mine have always gone to bed around the 7pm mark though, would that work for you?

MuddyForestWalks · 28/05/2018 13:50

DD dropped hers at 17 months 😭 DS is almost 15 months now and I have The Fear.

Tentomidnight · 28/05/2018 13:57

Both of my children dropped their 2hr naps at this stage. On the upside, they slept brilliantly at night (7-7) as a result!

kaytee87 · 28/05/2018 14:00

Shock that seems like very little sleep for that age.

Mine is the same age and sleeps 7pm-7am (sometimes getting up for a cuddle or water) then naps 12pm-2pm.

I thought most children napped until they were around 3yo? Although obviously they're all different.

SoyDora · 28/05/2018 14:00

Both mine dropped theirs at 20 months. Both slept 7-7 though.

SoyDora · 28/05/2018 14:01

Some do, some don’t. Most of my friend’s DC have dropped theirs around 2-2.5.
I find it odd when a 3 year old naps because mine dropped theirs so young!

Orangedaisy · 28/05/2018 14:03

I’d happily take no naps from my 16mo if it meant she’d sleep all night. I don’t even get an evening at the moment; she sleeps in 1-2 hour chunks all night and for nap time.

twinkletoedelephant · 28/05/2018 14:05

My twins dropped Naps from 1.... Awake 7-7 everyday....and BUSY all the time...

Nearly 10 years later still neither need much sleep.... Dd on the other hand needs 9 hours+.... I figure she is still trying to catch up from all the sleeping she didn't get as a baby :)

Clayhead · 28/05/2018 14:10

Mine both stopped naps at about 20 months, never struck me as odd!

LilacIris · 28/05/2018 14:10

DD1 dropped hers at 15.5 months (unless in a car in the afternoon) and DD2 has just dropped hers now (she is 19 months). Both sleep anywhere between 12 and 14 hours at night so make up for it then.

MollyCule · 28/05/2018 14:13

My DD is 22 months and still has a 2 hour nap after lunch. She sleeps through most nights too (11-12 hours). Sometimes I actually wonder if she sleeps too much! She hates going down for her nap but usually gets to sleep fairly quickly. When people say that their kids dropped their naps, do you mean you tried putting them down but they wouldn't sleep anymore?

RNBrie · 28/05/2018 14:14

I'd try just letting them have a 45 min sleep after lunch and then a normal bed time. Dropping the nap completely can leave them really over tired... In my experience they have waves of seeming to not need it but in a couple of weeks/months you might regret dropping it altogether.

All mine have had a stage around 2 when they didn't seem to need a nap but we pushed on through it and they had naps up to around 3.

BlackWatchBelle · 28/05/2018 14:16

My daughter stopped at 11 months (sob)

My friends son still has a little nap after school at 5. It varies so widely
