Is now awake from 7:30 am - 9:30 pm!

Ds is 15 months. Sometimes he won't nap in the day anymore. Hasn't for the past 3 days.

He has been quite unruly today though so I might try an early night then back to normal tomorrow.

SoyDora · 28/05/2018 14:18

When people say that their kids dropped their naps, do you mean you tried putting them down but they wouldn't sleep anymore?

Yes, tried putting them down as usual and they just wouldn’t sleep/weren’t tired. Even if we went for a drive after lunch for half an hour they wouldn’t doze off.

Lennythelion14 · 28/05/2018 14:20

Oh i wish my older 3 had dropped naps at 22 months. 1 stopped napping unless traveling when he was under 1,other 2 were under 18 months. Youngest has dropped them already unless traveling (she's 13 months). Maybe try an earlier bedtime.,say 8pm? Try with a bedtime routine as well. My elder 3 went to bed about 7pm at that age.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 28/05/2018 14:23

Ds stopped at 18 maths. I was not amused.

xandersmom2 · 28/05/2018 14:24

Both of mine had stopped napping by 12 months, but would sleep at night from 7.30pm to 6 am (when we were up for me to go to work).

Daycare constantly complained about it, never figured out what they wanted me to do. I used to send in colouring stuff for them to do at nap time so they didn't upset the other kids, but that 'wasn't allowed'.

Son is now 11 and still doesn't sleep much, I don't know how he does it!

Funnyface1 · 28/05/2018 14:28

They are all different. Dd is nearly 21 months and wouldn't be able to get through the day without a nap after lunch. If she's tired, she's miserable.

Currently sleeping 8-8 overnight too.

Around the two year mark my boyfriend’s daughter really fought her nap. The sleeping sack/bag had to go. And on the odd occasion it fell to me to put her down I felt like a superhero/child whisperer if she dropped off. But when she was with us we just kept up the rhythm and it got easier. She still naps. She just turned four and when she is with us on weekends she sleeps from 9 (goes to bed around 8:15) until 6 or 7 and usually has a nap for around 2 hours also.

Baubletrouble43 · 28/05/2018 14:39

Sorry but my dd1 dropped all naps at 22 months. According to my mum so did I. Meant she was crashed out in bed well before 7pm for the night though, so silver linings!! X

laloup1 · 28/05/2018 14:39

Meant to say - she almost loves her naps now! There’s never an argument.

Baubletrouble43 · 28/05/2018 14:40

One of my 18 month old twins refused her nap today.... please god let this be a one off.... !!!!

SoyDora · 28/05/2018 14:41

My 4 year old (and 2 year old) sleeps 7-7 so has the same (or more) sleep over 24 hours, just without the nap. It works much better for us as we don’t have to cut day trips etc short for a nap or plan anything around them.

ElinorOliphantIsCompletelyFine · 28/05/2018 14:43

My nearly 23 month old sleeps from 8pm to half 6, then has 1.5-3 hours in the day, depending on if he's at home or at nursery (nursery naps are always shorter). So, to me, it seems too young too!

MaverickSnoopy · 28/05/2018 15:11

My DD2 is 22 months. About a month ago she stopped napping. So I changed nap time from midday to 11am and she started napping again. She did the same at 13mo. Stopped napping when she had been having a morning and afternoon nap, so I consolidated the two and she napped again. She has a 1.5 - 2 hour day time nap and sleeps 11-12 hours at night. She doesn't sleep well for her childminder and is then seriously grumpy.

Conversely her older sister used to love her sleep, at 22mo she still had 2 naps a day and napped up until the age of 4. I imagine DD2 will drop hers much earlier.

I am a firm believer that you don't know whether a child really is ready to drop their nap until you have tried alternative routines for at least 3/4 weeks. Over the years my children have always appeared ready to drop their nap as they simply stopped napping and/or seemed fine without, but every time (apart from when DD1 was actually ready) a change of routine helped them to sleep again. Definitely try a chance of routine first to see what happens.

x2boys · 28/05/2018 15:21

mine stopped at about two a half unfortunately Sad

FatherMacKenzie · 28/05/2018 15:25

My eldest stopped at 18 months too. Dc2 is only a baby, but I’m hoping I might get a bit longer this time!

At the other end of the scale, I know children who still nap at 4yo when they’re about to start school. I don’t know how easy that is either as, if, (like mine), they won’t sleep anywhere but their own bed then you have to be at home for a period of time in the middle of the day, which can be a bit restrictive.

Maybe keep trying with your dc op? If they’ve really stopped though, I don’t think 22 months is the end of the world. Maybe just a little inconvenient.

TooMinty · 28/05/2018 15:27

I'd go for an early bedtime if no naps, more like 18:30...

seven201 · 28/05/2018 21:05

I'd say no naps is fine but 10 hours total sleep doesn't seem enough.

Fruitcorner123 · 28/05/2018 21:07

supernanny would tell you that it is too early but I know plenty who did drop them. If it was me i would be working on getting bed time earlier as that doesn't sound like enough sleep.

pointythings · 28/05/2018 21:22

I have one who napped until age 4.5 - I honestly thought she might nap in reception! - and another who dropped all naps at around the same time as OP's. They both slept like tops at night though. They're all different.

Both of mine did nap after swimming - that knocked them out.
