Slimming World Consultant has had a Gastric Bypass -AIBU?

My friend has lost 8.5 stone having had a gastric bypass on the NHS. Prior to the surgery she lost a stone or two on SW but qualified for the surgery because she maintained that she couldn't lose weight via dieting.

Now she's a just become a SW consultant.

It doesn't sit right with me at all.
Surely it's dishonest to tell a room full of members that you have lost the weight through SW when actually you have a stomach a fraction of the size of theirs and feel no hunger?

I don't get it. I really don't. Anybody could be losing weight by any method and you'd never know. What does it matter to other people? SW works for some, not others, ditto WW and another other.

The suggestion to 'dob her in' leaves me cold.

OP, if you are actually a friend, leave your friend alone - this is her business, not yours or anybody else's. Seeing her verbally eviscerated on here though makes me question your motives, not hers.

It's only dishonest if she doesn't tell them about the gastric bypass surgery. I don't think there's anything wrong with her saying her weight loss was a combination of SW and surgery if that's true.

YANBU. I think it's deceptive.

It's dishonest. Having said that, she'll probably be one of the few slim SW consultants around because i have been to more than I care to mention and all consultants (bar 2) have been fatter than me.

Of course if she's honest there's no problem.

I'm dreading any convos about how the group is doing. I'll feel like a fake if I go along with it. If she hadn't had surgery (or I didn't know) I know I would be actively encouraging her more.

I just feel awkward about it.

I feel it is she who is jeopardising the friendship through being dishonest.

There is a lady in my group who has had a gastric sleeve done, 5 weeks ago. Every week since then she has won slimmer of the week and then last night she won slimmer of the month, I do not think it is fair for the rest of us as we are food optimising doing body magic following the plan and not getting the reward incentives where as someone that has had surgery is eating mush and winning all the time. I am seriously thinking about giving up and trying something else as this is so unfair or is it just me.

If she is telling her clients she lost all the weight through SW then YANBU.

Puppydog1 That seems incredibly unfair - surely if she cant keep to the SW eating principles then it isnt a "fair" loss!! Has anyone had a word with the group leader?

Why on earth does anyone think she’s going to tell the classes that she’s had this done??
A group of people listening to her pontificating that they’ve just got to eat less to achieve a weight loss like hers?!

Iamagreyhound - she won’t even be telling her attendees to eat less. When we had disappointing weeks, our SW leader would often encourage us to eat more and to really fill up on ‘free’ foods. So the SW diet will be completely at odds with a gastric band where you can only eat tiny amounts.

Shocking that someone can keep winning slimmer of the week when they’re not even following the plan. I’d be looking for a new group too.

It depends if she is telling everyone she lost 2 stone on SW or if she's telling them she's lost 8.5 stone on SW.

She doesn't need to disclose the surgery if she's only saying 2 stone.

Argh sorry clicked post by accident, anyway our consultant is very empathetic and often talks about her own "journey". I was fairly knowledgeable about nutrition but I'm a big emotional eater and she has given me wonderful advice.
I have the converse of this, couldn't make my usual group this week so went to a nearby one & spotted someone I know getting weighed in who is a big sharer on social media but absolutely no mention of her attending SW. However, she loves to brag about how much weight she's losing by clean eating and using all the Forever Living lotions and potions that she happens to sell.
