Parcel thrown over fence WWYD.

Have mentioned this in another thread and has been annoying me ever since.

I was out most of the day and when I got home went in the back garden to find a large parcel for me there. I have no side entrance so delivery people can not have put it there. I can only assume my NDN had taken it in and thrown it over the fence. This is six foot high so they could have placed it over my side. The parcel was marked fragile and the contents are naturally completely broken and unusable.

As I see it I have three choices of which two are not honest. Tell the company I brought the item from it arrived broken and blame them or the delivery people. I will not consider doing either of these

Or knock on my NDN’s door and demand an explanation, rip them a new one. For info I hardly know the neighbours apart from taking the occasional parcel for them which I have done gladly. They have their house up for sale so obviously couldn’t give a fuck about keeping up good relations with me.

Just feeling mighty pissed off with the waste of money.

If no note was left I would contact the company you purchased from and tell them it did not arrive. If the delivery company cannot show a signature or proof of delivery then they cannot say you safely received the parcel. Bin the broken stuff and get a refund or new item. It's up to the company to hold the delivery people responsible. Certainly your NDN is not going to be of any help.

Delivery drivers throwing parcels over roofs? You'd have to some sort of Olympic athlete to throw a parcel over a roof??? For some reason the idea of some kind of superstring delivery olympic athlete lobbing parcels over houses has me pissing myself.

Update on this, vendors have already sent a replacement and say they will be in touch with the delivery people. I told them what had happened and they assured me this is now not my problem and between them and delivery company (and neighbours).

In a twist today neighbours are having scaffolding put up at the back of their house. Builders have just knocked and asked if they can put a pole in my garden. I don’t mind but would have liked to know beforehand as was going out and now am waiitng in for them to sort it out.

Not long lived here and slightly surprised at the lack of courtesy of neighbours not mentioning to me they were having work done. However in MN world everyone hates their neighbours, never takes parcels in for them and would rather stick pins in their eyes than converse with them. I do realise in that case IABU. I do also live in Surrey (see other thread currently running) which may explain a lot!

Oh and a package was left with me yesterday for same neighbours. Interesting to see what they say when they collect it. Know I said I wouldn’t take anything in for them but the delivery guy was so apologetic I felt sorry for him.

You really have to stop assuming it was the neighbor without asking! The delivery company should have left a card saying what they’d done with it so even that was their fault. You’ve tried and convicted the neighbours without hesitation but evidence of the are suggests delivery co left parcel outside and not with a neighbour.

YoThePussy · 31/05/2018 09:45

The delivery company have apparently confrmed with the company I ordered from that they handed the package to the NDN who signed for it.

What work are the neighbours having done? They should have issued you a party wall agreement and you are entitled to appoint your own surveyor that they need to pay for.

Amber0685 · 31/05/2018 09:51

Why don't you say something when they come to collect the parcel you have for them?

Autocorrectible · 31/05/2018 09:52

I’d take it up with the company you bought it from, who can subsequently take it up with the delivery company. It arrived broken (regardless of how it ended up in your back garden). It wasnt delivered to your house and you didnt sign for it, therefore not your fault.

HeebieJeebies456 · 31/05/2018 09:57

i'd have said 'no' to the scaffolding - you're not a doormat to be walked over like this

YoThePussy · 31/05/2018 10:04

Having some work done to the back of their house, their rendering is coming away, doesn’t involve party wall agreements or yes they would be paying for a surveyor of my choice.

Lady next door up has just knocked as they are having it done as well and wanted to apologise for the inconvenience. There will be wine involved so she is alright in my book.

Newbie, if they had knocked ten minutes later I would have gone out shopping so they would have been stuffed.

By the way I'd mark any future orders "Do not leave with neighbours, only addressee". Hopefully that way you'd have comeback if anyone else plays one-way volleyball with your stuff.

GabsAlot · 31/05/2018 10:37

i was apparently left a card yesterday by yodel when they tried to deliver something when i was in

yeah ok-cs werent very helpful either

I knew it would be Hermes when I opened this thread! I now refuse to use anyone who states up front that they use them. We have lots and lots of lovely places to leave parcels - we're rural and out of sight of the road. Hermes have previously left mail: in the recycling bin on the kerb (binmen kindly brought it up to the house); under neighbour's car (separate house up the road); lodged on dormer roof one story up Hmm

Needless to say, on every occasion, I was in the house anyway!
