To leave skin on my mash

Cooking for 6 and making a cottage pie.

Really cant be fucked to peel all these potatoes. Would it be unreasonable to leave skins on?

I never peel potatoes (except sweet potatoes). Life’s too short. I like texture in my mash though - I often put sautéed onion or leeks and greens in though.

VogueVVague · 25/05/2018 18:03

Decided to go with it- im also not a stickler for a lump free mash so guests will be enjoying "hand-crushed chunky rustic mash". In all fairness the meat sauce is lush!!!

I love it with skin on. It's nutritious anyhow.

felicitythemangyfox · 25/05/2018 18:05

Totally reasonable. Skin on mash is lush.

NeeChee · 25/05/2018 18:06

I never peel potatoes for mash. I don't mind the texture, and the skin has the good bits in it.

BossWitch · 25/05/2018 18:08

I never peel! Much nicer with skins left on, and I'm lazy.

scarbados · 25/05/2018 18:09

Leave the skin on - more fibre and a lot more of the vitamins and minerals because a large proportion of them are in or just under the skin. I haven't peeled a potato for over 30 years and probably won't ever again. YANBU YAB very sensible.

pinkpopcorn · 25/05/2018 18:09

I normally keep the skin on, hate peeling potatoes

I like skin-on mash!

possumgoddess · 25/05/2018 18:24

YWBVVVVU to leave the skin on for mashed potatoes. How do you even MASH potatoes if you leave the skin on! By all means have crushed potatoes if that floats your boat (it doesn't float mine) but don't pretend they are mashed (with slimy bits of skin on - bleargh).

SnookieSnooks · 25/05/2018 18:26

Leave the skin in. Most of the nutrients are in the skin. Tastes good too!

VogueVVague · 25/05/2018 18:27

@possumgoddess
Well im doing it and you cant stop me! Slathering it in milk and butter to give them a creamy distraction...

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 25/05/2018 18:33

What sort of potatoes?

Oysterbabe · 25/05/2018 18:35

I always leave it on unless we have guests through pure laziness.

ivykaty44 · 25/05/2018 18:37

Don’t tell me people peel potatoes to mash?

Skins where all the goodness it, and makes it tasty

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 25/05/2018 18:38

Isn't the mash all brown and lumpy with the skins on?!?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 25/05/2018 18:44

Eeewww.

BarbaraofSevillle · 25/05/2018 18:50

I always leave the skin on, you can’t even tell once it’s been mashed

How Don't you get great lumps of skin in your mash Confused

Or can you put boiled unpeeled potatoes in a potato ricer and only the inside gets through and the skin stays in the ricer?

WeAllHaveWings · 25/05/2018 18:53

I love skin on "crushed potatoes" with butter. Much nicer and more flavour than boring old mash.
