During my younger years I had a really strong sense of self. Worked hard, dreams of climbing the corporate ladder, was happy in my job and lived for nights out at the weekend - getting "merry" and clubbing with friends.

Now I'm older, friends are settled, corporate world is horrendous and I feel a bit lost. I don't really know what makes me happy anymore so I'm hoping that IANBU to look to MN for some inspiration please Grin

When do you feel properly happy, like you're being the real, true version of yourself?

Singing along to some loud shouty metal songs. - usually when I’m home alone doing some boring housework.

Painting (as in art not walls).

Having a night out with my friends at our old haunts (smelly metal/rock bar followed by smelly rock club). I don’t do that to often as the whole vibe has changed over the years but once or twice a year is enough to take me back to my old carefree self.

At my sewing machine. Hours can go by, and I'm completely absorbed.

I also love reading, but I'm lost in another world then, rather than my own, IYSWIM?

Taking the dogs hiking, especially at pre-dawn when there is no one around and you can gradually see and hear the world waking up.

The feeling of a long hot shower after a really long day hiking out to the beach. Putting on comfy clothes and collapsing on the sofa with a chilled glass of wine. Watching the dogs snooze, knowing they are well fed and 'happy exhausted'.

Being cosy indoors, when there is typhoon blowing outside. Watching the crazy weather from the safety of the couch, candles lit - good book or tv on.

I think I feel my best when I am happily tired from a day of physical exertion outdoors, that feeling of the day well spent, in the summer the sun kissed feeling on skin and in winter that rosy glow. With the rest of the day given to resting and relaxing.
