To think you're not poor...

AIBU to think you're not poor if you can afford SKY TV? Felt a bit irritated that on "rich house poor house" this week the "poor" family had massive Tv's in the kids bedrooms and sky tv. I know they didn't have a ton of money and were in the bottom 10 %. But really?

ohreally its pointless arguing. I posted that my library was rarely open but hey I've got to hot foot it there for my 'entertainment' when its open. Its bucketing down here today. My hypothetical young children could go to a science attraction which would be £30 including parking or bus fare. That's ONE afternoon out. Or we could enjoy Sky for 35.00 for a whole month. That's tv, phoneline and broadband.
Yes you can go to the park its free but its absolutely thumping down.

Running theme is then that lowest 10% shouldn't have choice !
Nobody's mentioned that a family can not live averagly on one average wage. Austerity cuts, low wages, cost of living gone up.

For those as smug to think well it didn't affect me, I have academic awards , how about put some of that apparent intelligence into working out what you can do for your community and what has happened to this country where children are disadvantaged .

To everyone who pays £35 a month for sky TV, what exactly do you get? Sounds super cheap. I’ve looked into a cheap virgin/sky package and tbh doesn’t seem like it’s worth it, you get the same as free view. I pay £80 a month for all 3. I don’t get movies or sport and not all channels. My WiFi is pretty shite and I still have to pay for calls on the landline. Aren’t too packages around £120 a month?

I hate these threads! That is all

Why get Sky when the local library is free and reading improves literacy rates and provides entertainment?

Can't you do both?
Are you incapable of having a tv in the house AND reading?

Because I don't think that is a thing.

Wtf?! Didn't realise there are such judgmental rich(!) people just waiting to have a go at families who after all shouldn't have anything... really they should have cans attached to string if they want anything like a phone line. God.

MerryShitmas · 27/05/2018 11:55

You can get good deals from sky - never just take the ones you see online.
Do price comparisons online, then call them directly and ask for their best price.
I got sky for free for 3 months then £42 a month (incl internet and basic tv package) for 9 months - 12 month contract. I then switched providers

Quite honestly NotClear I don't know. They literally invited me by email a few years ago as I review stuff. So does DH and much more so than me but he has never been invited. I suspect it's luck of the draw.

As I said...televisions are like hens teeth and most stuff is books and make up. That was a lucky break I suspect.
