WWYD friends tattoo mistake

FrustratedBeyond · 24/05/2018 20:01

Both my friend and her DH had matching tattoos today, but both have 'could of' instead of 'could have'... WWYD... Gently inform her to save a shred of her dignity or save my embarrassment to point it out and say nothing? I know its not issue of the century but Im interested to hear what others would do.

Is this one easier to read?

Dear God...that is truly and utterly AWFUL. I would have such difficulty suppressing my horror. Why oh why can't people learn this correctly? I would actually ask for a refund from the tattoo artist. They HAVE to be able to spell when they are covering someone in permanent ink!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 25/05/2018 16:50

What does it say on the van?

Oysterbabe · 25/05/2018 17:16

Any good?

Tattoo artists should be literate.

WowLookAtYou · 25/05/2018 17:37

There was a long thread on here a year or two ago (that made it into classics) about appropriating the (wrong) phrase "tow the line," where it should be "toe" the line, just because they thought it should be an accepted version. Loads of people tried their darnedest to convince others that it must be a regional thing, or that "tow" was a perfectly acceptable form of the phrase. The thread went on and on, but the "toe-ers" won in the end! Grin

My tattoo artist checked mine about 100 times
I have "without passion we'd be truly dead" and "but still, like air, I'll rise"
Even down the the apostrophe etc, everything was checked

TheCraicDealer · 25/05/2018 17:37

They should be but I would've (of?) thought they would have disclaimers and caveats all over the place saying "we tattoo what you ask- we don't correct, check or translate designs" or similar to cover themselves.

If you want to have something permanently etched on your skin you should take the time to research and spell check it yourself, not expect someone else to spot your mistakes. Especially when qualifications in english, latin, mandarin etc. aren't exactly prerequisites for becoming a tattoo artist.

Fanciedachange1 · 25/05/2018 18:37

Craic, one of the tattoo places I have been to has a section on the consent/health form where you have to write what you want if you ask for text. It’s a good way of getting people to take personal responsibility for their choices.

That looks like you took that photo while you were driving.😲 👮🏼‍♂️🚓🚨

GruffaIo · 25/05/2018 19:01

Don't say anything. If it ever comes up and she asks why you didn't mention the mistake, say you assumed her MIL (for whom it's a tribute) said it that way and that was why they phrased it that way.

Amummyatlast · 25/05/2018 19:14

Serioussass I presume Aspie has a dash cam.

DepressedAspie · 25/05/2018 19:23

I do indeed have a dashcam 😀 they capture all manner of funny things.

My FIL bought a flower shop and changed the name. On his business cards, it said "formally" whatever the previous name had been, instead of formerly. Blush

Zaphodsotherhead · 25/05/2018 19:46

I had to be physically restrained driving down the motorway behind a horse transporter which had 'Horse's' written across it.

It could be argued it was correct, if it belonged to only one horse, but it was a multiple horse carrier.

specialsubject · 25/05/2018 20:02

awful as it is, if there is nothing to be done there is no point saying anything.

I saw a similar mistake on a clearly very expensive headstone. a stone mason that can't spell is even worse.
