Ethics regarding Instamums and huns

BurberryIsSo2000 · 24/05/2018 17:14

Homeisthecalm here, I think it's suitable to start a new ethics thread.

Since clearly, the one from yesterday isn't really about ethics but Clemmie.

Thanks all,

Keep it as nice or as stingy as you like Grin

I'll start off by saying things should be clearly marked 'ad' or 'gifted'

Although the term gifted gives me the rage

MP also follows me after a non fawning comment on mods page.

Sofialemon · 30/05/2018 22:49

I've never commented on anyones insta page (other than my friends). Seems very strange.

Readingchairreboot · 30/05/2018 22:52

Lol after my last comment, my account disappeared, password no longer worked and I've had to rejoin from my spare email...😱

How is MP linking people from these threads and their IG?

Perhaps she can tell us?

TheLadyhasarrived · 30/05/2018 22:54

Was it MP that used to work at mumsnet towers?

Readingchairreboot · 30/05/2018 22:55

I think at least one poster was a journalist, as I was messaged with various confidences. I won't go into what they said, but they have now disappeared.

Readingchairreboot · 30/05/2018 22:56

TheLady yes indeedy.

Sofialemon · 30/05/2018 23:02

Which posters have disappeared?

The only way I can think I could have came to MP's attention is that I DM'd an instamum she seems to know.

Sofialemon · 30/05/2018 23:07

I use the same email for insta and Mumsnet but she'd have to know someone here and at Instagram to use that to link the accounts up?!

Readingchairreboot · 30/05/2018 23:12

I'm not going to out anyone who has posted previously, sorry. You'll have to check yourself if you're interested.

I'm not really into conspiracy theories but there's been something going on. Not surprising, given there have been articles in the press and this site is anonymous - apparently.

ABuckToothedGirlinLuxembourg · 30/05/2018 23:14

Hmm, someone’s giving out email addresses then?

TheLadyhasarrived · 30/05/2018 23:15

One of the main ones I noticed was the op of about 2 threads ago, I think all messages were withdrawn. Probably just a coincidence, but I noticed there were a lot of deletions from other posters too.

Readingchairreboot · 30/05/2018 23:21

TheLady very odd eh.

Readingchairreboot · 30/05/2018 23:23

If you don't hear from me in the morning, you'll know why Grin

Boredandtired · 30/05/2018 23:32

This reply has been deleted

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

MarshaBradyo · 31/05/2018 04:23

I noticed that about the withdrawal and wondered what was going on

Reading don’t get taken out Shock

No requests to meet for me or following on IG - very few posts however

stilldazed · 31/05/2018 05:13

the point i was trying to make was that the meldrums have no other job for alternative income. they are living of revenue gained from advertisment using their children.whether they state clearly that it is an ad or not they are using their non consenting children to make money...i wonder how long this can go on unregulated, it seems so ethically questionable.

SpongeBobGrannyPants · 31/05/2018 06:49

Mrs M is still quite young. I'd expect they'll have at least one more (child). I think she's alluded to this before. Babies do seem to be quite lucrative in terms of gifting etc. I've noticed.

I do wonder what they'll do when their kids are less cute and cooperative as their USP is 'young kids', they don't really share much else of interest (Mod for instance at least has her midwife career as a secondary point of interest). Making hay whilst the sun shines I guess. Good luck to them.

TheLadyhasarrived · 31/05/2018 07:06

Readingchair have you made it through the night or are you furiously typing “you got this mama!” on IG? Grin

checkedcloth · 31/05/2018 07:17

Grin she’s pulling that ‘strong mama t-shirt’ over her head as fast as humanly possible

Readingchairreboot · 31/05/2018 07:31

Thelady ha ha! I guess the MN IG crossover is just a coincidence if some of the posters here have been showing 'dissent' on IG. I don't follow the main suspects over there anymore and I've never commented.

People were commenting on previous threads about MP saying she was going to meet with the ASA, so it makes sense to involve people if they are interested enough to raise their concerns on here.

Readingchairreboot · 31/05/2018 07:36

checkedcloth I am knitting a Are you ok, you've totes got this obvs Hun/megababe/mama jumper so I can blend in when I'm out and about.

SpongeBobGrannyPants · 31/05/2018 07:53

I'll take a megababe one. Do they also come in a range of family sizes so the whole family can wear one?!

Readingchairreboot · 31/05/2018 07:59

spongebob the kids jumpers just come with £ signs on them.

CadyHeron · 31/05/2018 08:59

they are living of revenue gained from advertisment using their children.whether they state clearly that it is an ad or not they are using their non consenting children to make money..

There's no law against that though, there's nothing wrong with being a parenting brand.
There's plenty of celebs out there that are too. The Beckhams for instance are a family brand.
It might not be something you like but at the end of the day it's a parenting choice. You don't have to like it. People probably won't like half the stuff you do with your kids (presuming you have any)

CadyHeron · 31/05/2018 09:03

I do wonder what they'll do when their kids are less cute and cooperative as their USP is 'young kids'

Maybe branch out into a wider scope, say interiors or home or lifestyle or something?
As you say your USP will have diluted/maybe gone so to keep up an income and interest you'd have to diversify a bit.
