Why have people started using reflexive pronouns so much?

I seem to hear a lot recently of "what can I get for yourself?" or "could you send it to myself with a, b and c copied in".

You get something for yourself, I get something for you. I send something to myself, I send something to you.

Is this now considered acceptable English?

I hate this. Especially 'myself'.

'Myself and John are going to the theatre'. = Fuck off wankers.

'John and I are going to the theatre'. = Have a nice time.

wilbur totally agree!

ginghamstarfish · 30/05/2018 10:37

Awful, seems pretentious, as does the current use of 'source' etc ... makes me laugh when I hear 'I sourced this sofa from ....' imagining an expedition up the Nile rather than a simple trip to DFS or look at Argos Grin

DadDadDad · 30/05/2018 10:44

But, gingham, how else are they going to "curate" their décor? Grin

Sourced is really awful. You mean ‘got’, love.

I also don’t like the MN staples ‘meal plan’ and ‘batch cook’ as verbs. I don’t need a verb for thinking what I want for tea, or making a bit too much of it.

mommybunny

"It" is the subject with which the verb has to agree, i.e. "is".

"I" is the predicative nominative and has to agree with the subject, not the verb.

It allows you to distinguish "It is I" and "I am it".

Sorry, just seen others have already answered.

Ahem. Bought.

BustopherJones · 31/05/2018 22:15

@Nanny I don’t, which makes it worse!
