The NFL new rule is interesting to me. Freedom of Speech/Expression vs the right of an employer to determine working conditions within the laws governing said determinations.

They can't force them to say the Pledge of Allegiance (certain religions forbid it) yet they can force them to stand for the Anthem. Both refusals are decisions based on one's moral conscience. Seems to me another slippery slope along the road to totalitarianism. I hope someone (ACLU?) challenges it.

The Anthem/Pledge/Flag routines seem strange to me anyway.

'God Save the Queen' is played at sporting events but most of the time the players just look sheepish and mime the words (or an approximation of them). It is a dirge though.

I suspect there might be more enthusiasm from the Welsh when it comes to 'Land of My Fathers.' I think there is no official anthem for Scotland but a number of songs that do the trick.
