Aggressive woman-was I BU?

Driving my DC to school today, and we get into the school car park. Was driving along behind two cars, a taxi at the front, then this woman's in front me me.
Taxi stops dead on a zebra crossing with no indication, car in front does the same. I wait a few moments then carefully drive around the two cars (one way system, so nothing coming other way)
Get my DC out of the car and this woman appears from the other car and gets out and starts being very confrontational and aggressive, telling me I should drive carefully (I do) we are all waiting you know, she wanted to get past the taxi too, but was waiting.
It was more the arm gestures and aggression on her face that shocked me.
My poor DC looked scared.

I told her I do drive carefully and that I was sorry to appease the situation. I was left shaking by her aggression!

Was I bu?

Oh wow, this threads still going!

BlueSapp-what usually happens, is that you end up getting a line of people parking like the taxi to go into the office, drop off etc (it gets busier the closer to 9am you get)

They can be there chatting away with friends etc for ages. It's hard to know which ones will be 2 minutes, and which will be half an hour!

So the general thing people do is use lane two to carry on to the designated car park.

I don't agree

FullOfJellyBeans · 24/05/2018 12:50

The more I read the more obvious it is OP was definitely NBU. Obviously someone might have jumped out of the taxi that doesn't mean you can't legally drive along a lane which is meant for driving along, you just drive slowly and cautiously. If you stopped dead anywhere that someone might get out you'd never be able to leave a car park.

FullOfJellyBeans · 24/05/2018 12:51

This is clearly what the second lane is for (passing vehicles which have stopped). No one would overtake a moving vehicle on the road into school.

VivaKondo · 24/05/2018 12:51

Ah reason seems to have come back to MN.

I’m sure that a lot of people who have been banging on the fact the OP did something dangerous have actually done that same thing before wo giving it a second thought.
Because it’s just normal driving. I don’t think anyone would Just stay behind said taxi whilst they were PARKED.

Having said that, I’m Hmm at the fact the woman who came to shout at the OP must have had to overtake said taxi EXACTELY IN THE SAME WAY the OP did to be able to park and th n go and shout at the OP.....

user7469322 · 24/05/2018 12:57

Quite clearly it was BlueSapp sat in that car behind the taxi!!!!!! Oh dear god who wouldn't expect traffic to continue passing in lane 2 if it were possible!

NotAnotherUserName5 · 24/05/2018 12:57

VivaKondo-good point! I wish I'd said that to her Grin

Op, do not EVER under ANY circumstances use lane 1 of that piece of road EVER AGAIN!!

NotAnotherUserName5 · 24/05/2018 13:02

AmazinglyGrace-think I'll avoid the car park full stop!

OP posts:
BlueSapp · 24/05/2018 13:03

If your diagram was accurate then why were you in lane 1 anyway when clearly you need to be in lane 2 to access the parking? if lane 1 is directly outside the school and its a one way system you should've been in lane 2 the whole way down to the parking and therefore no reason to be behind the taxi, or is the diagram not correct?

If you had of taken notice of the woman in the car in front and given it a minute without rushing then perhaps the situation would't have arisen, I'd suggest you give a little more consideration to what other road users are doing.

NotAnotherUserName5 · 24/05/2018 13:06

Because lane one was clear when I entered the car park of obstructing vehicles. Obviously, if it was already parked in that position prior to me entering that lane, I would have gone in lane 2.

OP posts:
BlueSapp · 24/05/2018 13:08

But lane 2 is the correct lane always so if you are entering a one way system which has two lanes you drive on the correct side for the way you wish to proceed which in you case is lane 2

Paleshelter · 24/05/2018 13:09

I was at a hospital yesterday was standing near a zebra crossing but turned away waiting for my mother who was walking slowly. The next thing I hear this shouting from the car from this man and woman- " make your f*king mind up" shouting like crazy, swearing etc. I was so shocked. I had my phone in my hand and was trying to take a photo of the car because I think he was ready to get out of the car then he drove off. So many a*eholes about- absolutely no need for it.

Snowflakes1122 · 24/05/2018 13:09

Ignore blue

Some people just have to be right even when wrong. I think it's the numpty in the car in front too grace

user7469322 · 24/05/2018 13:10

@BlueSapp

The op write this:

Taxi stops dead on a zebra crossing with no indication, car in front does the same

Therefore, op had no early opportunity to move to lane 2 to avoid taxi or woman as they stopped. Sounds like the woman didn't either, hence why she got narked!

Also on said diagram, where does it say that only singular lane heads to the car park?

Mummyoflittledragon · 24/05/2018 13:10

BluSapp
Had op sat and waited for the driver in front to stop dithering, she’d have probably ended up being part of the row of parked cars when another came up behind her car by the sound of it. The person, who failed to adhere to the unwritten rules was screaming woman.

user7469322 · 24/05/2018 13:10

@Snowflakes1122 I could go on all day lol!!

Celebelly · 24/05/2018 13:17

The woman was a loon and should be ashamed at herself for spouting aggressive nonsense when you have kids in the car. She's probably just one of those crappy drivers who doesn't ever overtake so will just sit for five minutes behind a parked car getting steadily more irate as everyone else just overtakes like a sensible person.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 24/05/2018 13:26

What if the woman being called dithering tried to move round and OP cut her up? How do we know that didn’t happen?

user7469322 · 24/05/2018 13:31

@Windbeneathmybingowings

Because op was doing 7mph and woman was stationary. You can't cut someone up at 7mph.

Mummyoflittledragon · 24/05/2018 13:31

Wind
That’s what indicators are for.

CornishMaid1 · 24/05/2018 13:47

YANBU.

You were not 'overtaking'. You moved into the other lane and followed that road. I am guessing you pulled into the other lane, slowed/stopped to check the zebra crossing was clear, crossed and parked without doing some mad 40 mile an hour dash like in Fast and the Furious trying to see how many kids you could knock down on the way!!

You could be in either lane and as long as you paused and checked the zebra crossing and drove carefully you have done nothing wrong.

The first person in the wrong is the taxi driver who should not have parked on the middle of the zebra crossing and blocked it for pedestrians.

The second person in the wrong is the other woman. She should not have yelled at you. For all you knew she was waiting for the taxi to move so she could park on the zebra crossing herself. She has indicators and chose not to use them so you could not know that she was going to do the exact same thing you did.

You are not in the wrong.
