To ask what this bloody rash is?

Shamelessly postinf for traffic...

I have had a rash for a week and a half now. It started on my chest but is now all over my back, torso, legs, upper ams etc. It isnt itchy. Its red blotches that feel very slightly raised and dry.

Have been to GP who was a little flummoxed as not itching, but thought probably an allergy. But it is getting steadily worse and more widespread.

I havent eaten anything out of the ordinary, have no other real symptoms, havent changed washing powder or cleaning products. I havent been in the sun a lot ( I burn horribly). I have tried moisturiser/ emollient (have been washing in Oilatum), Loratidine, hydrocortisone and daktakort (not all at once!) GP has prescribed fexofenadine which I took first dose today.

Anyone have any ideas what might be the cause of this reaction please? Its driving me mad not knowing!!!

German measles?

Lex234 · 22/05/2018 21:06

I wondered if anyone had experienced an allergy from a food theyve always eaten with no problem before and reacted this way-like gluten intolerance or lactose intolerance? It must be something I have ingested to be all over my body?

Can you get that twice TheEmoji? I *think I had that as a child, and had my MMR abput 6 years ago

Looks a bit like pityriasis roses, is it mainly torso and did it start with one patch often on the arm and a little larger than the rest? That can be itchy though...

RandomMess · 22/05/2018 22:05

Hmmm possibly a fruit allergy- my Mum was allergic to stoned fruits and cane up like that!! Something you eat more in the summer - plums, cherries, apricot, nectarines...

Being allergic to strawberries isn't unusual either!

Lex234 · 22/05/2018 22:06

Ive never heard of that, what is it (and what gets rid of it...willing to try anything at this stage-I do not like my polka dot version!)
Funnily enough there is one patch bigger than the others but its on my breast (whixh is where the rash began)

I think this is similar to something my dd had - the same condition others have linked if I recall. It went after a couple of months.

Lex234 · 22/05/2018 22:09

Oh thank you Fretful! It does look a lot like that and sounds like it could be that... at least its not an allergy if its that and is harmless

But 2-6 weeks?! Sad

My auntie is allergic to strawberries, random-I feel so sorry for her as she loves them

Fungal

Claireshh · 22/05/2018 22:13

I have this!! I’ve had it a week. I’ve been taking piriton but it got much worse today. I went to the doctors today. They think it’s hives. My blood pressure was also raised which is not normal for me at all. I was prescribed fexofenadine hydrochloride. It’s MUCH better tonight.

Squeakyheart · 22/05/2018 22:13

I had a similar rash that presented like yours that I diagnosed as pityriasis but the gp said it was probably scabies and made me treat the whole family twice. It didn’t get better with treatment but did eventually go on it’s own after a couple of months( still think I was right)!

Samb79 · 22/05/2018 22:14

It looks like pityriasis rosea- I had it. Mine started with a patch on my neck. It was bloody itchy when I got hot! Mine lasted a few weeks but nowhere near the length of time they said on net. Sounds weird but using head and shoulders as a body wash really helped! Some sites say sun beds help to clear it too.
Good luck!

Lex234 · 22/05/2018 22:16

Squeaky i feel they go for scabies too quickly-I havent got any of the silvery lines and it isnt itchy enough for scabies. I think it could be that rosea thing others have mentioned. Bit gutted it lasts so long though :(

Oooh thanks samb i will try that!

Claireshh · 22/05/2018 22:17

Ps I have it on my boobs, stomach, thighs, arm pit joint area and upper inner arms. Mine feels hot and has been itchy. My GP fil said that a test to see if it is an allergic response is to get someone to rub an area on your back fairly vigourously. If it’s ulticaria a red mark will appear.

Samb79 · 22/05/2018 22:18

It’s supposed to be brought on by stress, so try to relax (despite being itchy and spotty). There’s a pityriasis rosea website that has lots of helpful tips for getting rid!

LightAsTheBreeze · 22/05/2018 22:19

Pityriasis rosea as others have said starts with a larger patch called a herald patch, I had it once it lasted a couple of months, I think it’s fairly harmless and non contagious and mainly affects the trunk of the body

Lex234 · 22/05/2018 22:20

Oh no claire you sound like you have it as bad as me! Hope it clears up soon!

I have been a bit stressed samb. That makes sense.

Thank you everyone for your advice-it was driving me mad! X

Yes to head and shoulders anti itch (green label) for showering. It's not fungal, they don't definitely know what causes it but it often follows a bout of strong viral illness usually including a sore throat. I had it following a virus I was hospitalised for, and it came back at exactly the same time the next year without the illness! Mine lasted about a month in total, cool showers will also help and aveeno moisturiser as it's unscented. If it gets hot or dry it will itch like crazy
