To hire a cleaner?

Myself and my partner both work full time, have a 4 year old DD (& 2 fur babies!).

By the time we get home from work, have walked the dogs, cooked tea, done DD’s homework with her, bathed and put her to bed and just generally spent time with her as she goes to breakfast club and after school club until 6 so we only have a couple of hours with her on a weekday. We’re both also fairly active and take turns to go to the gym (usually alternating days).. we seem to have no time whatsoever to properly keep up with the cleaning/washing/ironing.

By the time teas cooked, eaten, DD in bed, dogs walked, been the gym, had a shower it’s around 9/10pm and I’m exhausted.

Would any of you care to share if/how you keep up with housework along with full time hours/kids/pets and generally having a life with hobbies?

I mentioned hiring a cleaner just for a couple of hours on a Friday to my DM & she went on a big rant of waste of money and it’s laziness etc and how she managed as a working mother when I was younger etc.. but truly, I don’t know how she did it..

Are we lazy? Or do you think a cleaner would be a reasonable option? Anyone who’s been in the same situation please share! Flowers

I'm a cleaner and I hire a cleaner for my own home! Now thats something people can't get their heads around! Grin
I work 16 - 20 hours cleaning outside my home and I'm a full time university student. I'm knackered and she cleans far more efficiently than I do at home. I get side tracked easily at home which I don't when I'm working.

I don’t understand why people DON’T have cleaners if they have a small amount of extra cash.

Outsource things you don’t like and spend time on things you do like.

Cleaner is always a good move. Never unreasonable.

Calling dogs furbabies on the other hand ......

You don't ha e to have a reason to have a cleaner, it's up to you and it's your money.

For what it's worth I have a cleaner every other day and some would say it's lazy , and the first few times I got comments I explained myself but I got sick of it and now I just smile and say how much I love it Grin

I do have 7 Chrildren, 6 dogs, 8 cats, some chickens and a 7 bedroom house though so I do need one Grin

I don’t understand why people DON’T have cleaners if they have a small amount of extra cash.

Because they have other things they'd rather spend the cash on?

Most of us don't have such shedloads of money that we can pay for a cleaner without even thinking about it - it's a priority whether spending on that is more valued than spending on some other thing (or putting money into savings).

I've been a housekeeper in the recent past. More and more people are buying in services to make life easier whether it be dog walking, gardening or cleaning. Life is very stressful and busy for so many so go ahead and get your cleaner. Don't get all hung up on the idea that it's bad to have someone doing your chores, you are giving someone a job. Everyone wins! X

Do you remember whether your DM prioritise cleaning the house over spending time playing with you? Because from my own childhood memories that's how my DM manages to do it all. I don't want to repeat that, do you?

I have a cleaner for a couple of hours a week and it's great BUT what I've recently started doing is sending the ironing out and it's made much more of a difference. It's so cheap (£11 for 30 items and they pick up and drop off in the evenings for another £1). We are doing it every second week as 40 items is a lot so for roughly £5 a week it's made a huge difference to us. So much so I could do without the cleaner now Smile but I probably won't!
