To want a rucksack and not feel like a student?

Is there such a thing? I really want a new rucksack but can’t find anything either remotely not school/student like or hideously expensive (I’m looking at you Mulberry)

Can anyone shed any light on a good one? My poor knackered hip can’t take a shoulder bag anymore.

I have numerous rucksacks in a range of sizes for various purposes, I go for comfort and practicality
I don't like handbags they're just not practical

I have this bag that I use as my day to day bag/change bag, it fits A4 size folders in! It also has several different compartments/pockets inside. £75 but asos currently have 20% off everything with code 'EVERY20'. It also comes in black on asos and I think there might be another colour on dunes actual website

It's never occurred to me that I might look like a student
What Does a 'studenty' a rucksack look like?

Branleuse · 21/05/2018 21:10

I love my kanken. Might be a little studenty but it's so practical and well made. It's quite a longstanding brand that seems to have got cool all of a sudden even though I've had two older people comment on it about how they had one years back

seastargirl · 21/05/2018 21:14

Mia tui ones are amazing

Rudgie47 · 21/05/2018 21:17

Osprey-The hiking ones and Lowe Alpine are really good and will last.Look at Blacks online and Go Outdoors, you will be able to get a nice rucksack from these places.

covetingthepreciousthings · 21/05/2018 21:18

Are the Kanken ones waterproof? I'm glad they're getting good reviews on here as I've been eyeing them up.

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 21/05/2018 21:36

Let me know if it works!

River93 · 21/05/2018 21:37

Don’t buy a Fjallraven Kanken! They just scream STUDENT

TolstoyAteMyHamster · 21/05/2018 21:40

Knock. Beautiful leather. Wide padded straps and very comfortable. Big enough to carry loads but stylish and elegant as well.

TolstoyAteMyHamster · 21/05/2018 21:40

Knomo! Not Knock! Stupid phone.

VetOnCall · 21/05/2018 21:49

I have a Kanken and find it quite a useful small bag, but I'm a big fan of Osprey backpacks and have 6 of them of various sizes. This is a good one for work purposes: www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/p/osprey-womens-questa-27-rucksack-E2114315.html?colour=3661

Elementally · 21/05/2018 21:52

I've seen a few cool looking people with retro style Patagonia ones in bright colours. Guess nothing looks studenty if you wear it right. Also Sandqvist ones are lovely but a bit expensive.

Cellardoor23 · 21/05/2018 22:21

I was thinking about getting a rucksack too. Mainly for everyday wear and something I can take to work. Has anyone got any experience of Conkca? Are they any good?

I quite like the look of this one

But I also like this Cath Kidston bag

LegallyBrunet · 21/05/2018 23:21

My mum uses a Cath Kidston one as a changing bag/medical supply bag for my brother. They’re very spacious.

ichifanny · 21/05/2018 23:28

I have a lovely stylish one from RAINS

boomboom12 · 21/05/2018 23:30

Longchamp?

Tryingoutanothername · 21/05/2018 23:32

I would agree with the Kanken recommendations... really good quality.

PrimalLass · 21/05/2018 23:37

I have a fake Kanken and love it.

Donthugmeimscared · 21/05/2018 23:47

I have this and I love it. Shame it wasn't this cheap when I bought it.

Over the years I've had handbag type rucksacks, sports type rucksacks and ones from outdoor shops. The ones from outdoor shops are the ones that have lasted years or in one case over a decade. They are also the most comfortable.

Incidentally the one that I've had the longest isn't a brand I would recommend now as Sports Direct brought them out. However Osprey ones are nice and comfortable. I have a larger one.

FASH84 · 22/05/2018 00:00

I currently work for a national Inspectorate everyone uses a variety of rucksacks for laptops etc including our chief who is a Dame... They're not for students! I'm partial to a Cath kidston one for work, they're waterproof and have a padded laptop pocket inside, but i have a lighter tan leather one that isn't a laptop bag that I use instead of a handbag when I'm not working.

ShinyShooney · 22/05/2018 00:13

Knomo.

LemonsLemonsLemonsLemons · 22/05/2018 00:44

I have this backpack for work. I like the canvas, and it can be carried by the top handle pretty neatly. I don’t feel too studenty with it and it’s pretty cheap!
