i recently got a 10 week old kitten, im wanting to rehome her because of my 14 month old daughter, she doesnt understand yet but she keeps trying to squeeze the cat all the time and im afraid of the cat going for the baby, another thing is she was good when she first got here she would go in her litter tray but recently she seems to take a poo either behind my sofa or the kitchen floor, her litter tray gets cleaned out every night, another thing aswell i am not always in the house im always running around doing something, like either working or in college, so when i get home im shattered and havent got the energy to have a play session with her, shes scratching my doors and the walls in the kitchen, i need advice on what to do?

The thing is, very few good owners will take an unvaccinated kitten after it's been outside because of the risk that it has already caught something incurable, or if it's a little bit older it might already be pregnant. Now really is the best time to contact the shelters.

I'm beyond tired of people thinking rescue is the go to option when they've had enough.

Well, what else can the OP do? Surely a shelter has the best chance of making sure the kitten is healthy, vaccinating etc and finding a proper home. Better than the OP, anyway.

At this point of course it is. Unfortunately many people just think oh well I've had enough/it's too hard/too busy a rescue will sort it out, my point being people should of give more thought to what they were committing to in the first place.

I agree, Always, 'so easy' to think, ah the shelter will take it..
When I worked for RSPCA I'd get numerous calls saying, my kids don't like the dog /cat/ rabbit whatever, or I can't afford neutering, vaccinations etc, or my dog hates the new cat etc (my area was so full we could no longer offer free neutering.. )and they'd say where are you, I'll drop it off today.. as if it was that simple! For one thing, in my area, there was no home/shelter, all animals went to individual fosterer's houses.. so it really isn't a case of just turn up somewhere... Unless you've worked in the rescue/shelter side, you really have no idea how large the scale of the problem is...and how many places can't cope...mainly because of selfish and ignorant ex owners.
Then the threats would start , 'if you don't take my cat I'll throw her out on the motorway' etc etc...

Is the litter box near her food? If so she will go elsewhere.

Writersblock2 · 22/05/2018 14:46

OP, you’re an idiot. It’s a living creature not a bloody play thing. Honestly, wtf is wrong with people?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 22/05/2018 15:43

OP have you spoken to any rehoming centres yet?

alltoomuchrightnow · 30/05/2018 16:00

Glad to hear it is all settled.

Change the type of litter and make sure the box is in a quiet, enclosed but spacious place. We did this for our cat, turns out she'll pee in wood pellet litter but won't poop in it (she'd go on the floor no matter how much training!) we put a antibacterial material one next to it and she goes poop in that no issues since it went down! Also, a kitten is a lot of effort right now, and I know it sounds weird but the more the baby pesters the cat, at this age the cat will be accustomed to it almost. But that said Never leave them together unsupervised.

This has to be a wind up.

RavenLG · 30/05/2018 18:25

Glad things have settled slightly OP.

To those saying 'take to a rescue' sorry but it's just not that simple. A lady who lives next to my parents is getting evicted due to a dispute with the neighbours behind. Cat neighbour has several cats that keep going in 'behind neighbour''s garden. (they were friends but have fallen out so she's turned into a bitch, complained to the point where her landlord is evicting her). Landlord said she can stay if she gets rid of the cats, she was in tears showing my dad email, after email, after email from cat shelters who won't take the cats because they are full.

Wolfiefan · 30/05/2018 18:32

So you take the word of someone else that nowhere has space for one vulnerable kitten you clearly don't want?
