i recently got a 10 week old kitten, im wanting to rehome her because of my 14 month old daughter, she doesnt understand yet but she keeps trying to squeeze the cat all the time and im afraid of the cat going for the baby, another thing is she was good when she first got here she would go in her litter tray but recently she seems to take a poo either behind my sofa or the kitchen floor, her litter tray gets cleaned out every night, another thing aswell i am not always in the house im always running around doing something, like either working or in college, so when i get home im shattered and havent got the energy to have a play session with her, shes scratching my doors and the walls in the kitchen, i need advice on what to do?

she wouldnt go as far as killing the kitten

You don't know this - 14 month olds don't understand the world around them yet, they are too tiny

withsexypantsandasausagedog · 21/05/2018 14:21

Toddlers can kill kittens.. I have heard of them being sat on!

Also you did say that you bought the kitten in your OP, perhaps that is why people are getting confused.

Wolfiefan · 21/05/2018 14:22

A 14 month old has no idea they can "kill" an animal or how to avoid doing so.
In 50 minutes you've gone from I don't want it and haven't got time for it to I want to keep it.
A cat can live for over twenty years. It will need vet treatment and is likely to have illnesses. It will need defleaing and worming and vaccinating and neutering. If you can't commit to all that then rehome whilst it's still young and cute b

OrchidInTheSun · 21/05/2018 14:22

It's very easy for small children to kill animals by accident. You and your sister shouldn't get pets

shannonxox · 21/05/2018 14:23

it werent my kitten to begin with i took her in because my sister left her here

OP posts:
shannonxox · 21/05/2018 14:25

yeah i am capable doing all that

Contact the people who bred the kitten, see if they'll have her back. If they won't contact local rescues.

TammySwansonTwo · 21/05/2018 14:27

I have twins who are nearly 2 and 2 cats who are getting on in years so more placid generally than a kitten. My twins are only just starting to show any interest in the cats who mainly run away when approached. Yesterday one of the twins came over while the cat was on the sofa and gently stroked her then very quickly pulled her ear and yanked it - I was right next to him to stopped it immediately, he just doesn’t understand what he’s doing. If I hadn’t had cats when they were born i wouldn’t get one until they were much older. Regime the kitten and wait several years before getting another.

shannonxox · 21/05/2018 14:27

i didnt intend on getting any pets until the baby was older cause i knew she wouldnt understand its not my fault my sister dumped her on me and i didnt know she would do that either

rehome not regime

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 21/05/2018 14:28

Sorry I find the " sister left the kitten for the day and didn't come back for it " hard to believe.

Where did you get the kitten from? Or your sister if you insist on the story?

OlennasWimple · 21/05/2018 14:28

but it is your fault if you allow this situation to continue. Take the cat to a re-homing place today

Wolfiefan · 21/05/2018 14:29

Yeah I too doubt the sister story.
So an hour ago you couldn't cope but now it's all ok?
If you didn't want a pet you should've taken it to a rescue ASAP.

shannonxox · 21/05/2018 14:31

she got it from a women who was selling the kittens in trelewis she had the kitten a day asked me too look after her for the day as she was going out for the day so i did little did i know she was going to get a dog from swansea and when i asked when she was coming back for the kitten she never replied till the next day and said she didnt want her back

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 21/05/2018 14:33

Sounds chaotic.
Do you have the woman's number?

shannonxox · 21/05/2018 14:35

nope i dont if i did dont you think i would have rung when my sister left the cat

Wolfiefan · 21/05/2018 14:37

Probably sold on FB. Don't put the poor thing on Gumtree to be used as bait.

Laiste · 21/05/2018 14:37

At the end of the day it doesn't matter why the kitten ended up living with you.

You've asked if the kitten will 'go' for your DD at any time.

Answer is: yes.

Your DD is just over one year old. At some point in the next few weeks or months when your kitten is older and bolder and your daughter gets more determined to hold it or play with it when it doesn't want holding or playing with she'll probably get a scratch or a bite. DD may well learn from that first time, or may not and it'll happen more than once.

Been there, got the t shirt.

shannonxox · 21/05/2018 14:39

she bought the kitten off gumtree and i wouldnt do that to the kitten

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 21/05/2018 14:40

But you won't contact a reputable rescue either.

Luisa27 · 21/05/2018 14:41

You’re definitely doing the right thing shannonxox Smile
Did you read the pm from Awkward?

shannonxox · 21/05/2018 14:41

im doing my research first before i do anything or call anyone

OP posts:
Furano · 21/05/2018 14:41

Contact the people who bred the kitten, see if they'll have her back. If they won't contact local rescues.

Hardly likely to be a reputable breeder sold to the OPs 'sister' (read - the OP) more likely to be a kitten farm off gum tree.

Luisa27 · 21/05/2018 14:42

....is Awkward able to help?

shannonxox · 21/05/2018 14:42

yeah i did read the pm from Awkward
