To not give a sh*t about the royal wedding?

Jotribiani · 18/05/2018 21:34

Just that really. People at work shoving it down your throats, all over TV, in the news, literally everywhere! AIBU to not actually care and think there’s more important things going on in the world?

OP posts:
midnightmisssuki · 18/05/2018 23:32

wow - lots of people who dont care about the royals wedding starting threads about not caring about the royal wedding... i think maybe just dont watch it? We're not but we're also not telling anybody that we are not watching it either.

midnightmisssuki · 18/05/2018 23:33

^^ and yes - my husband is more concerned about the FA cup finals.

summercat · 19/05/2018 00:26

@Hadroncollider

There's always something more important going on in the world though, no matter what it is, so that argument is naff.

Plus people are capable of enjoying something whilst in the full knowledge that there's a lot of crap happening elsewhere.

Do you stop yourself doing things you enjoy 'because there's always something more important going on in the world?" Confused

Yanbu to not give a fig, but Yabu in your post.

All of this ^ 100%. And put so much better than I could put it.

Can't help thinking it's incredibly naff to start a thread about how much you (allegedly) don't care about a certain thing.

I don't give a shit about the F A Cup final tomorrow; do I start a thread about it? Do I bollocks, because I don't even give it a second thought.

Starting a thread saying 'I simply do NOT care about blah blah blah' is a bit attention-seeking and pathetic to be honest.

Brendaofbeechhouse · 19/05/2018 08:59

I would like to listen to radio 4 news of without having to subject my ears to hours of something non news about a wedding i have no interest in. There is lots of stuff far more interesting going on in the world, e.g. Trump's reaction to the latest school shootings, and May taking the opportunity to bury the news of ,none new conservative peers (I thought the house of lords was meaning to be slimming down?)

Although I do have some good conspiracy theories about the British Truman show wanting to modernise, and how Meghan had to audition (like Tom Cruise's wife - allegedly).

In the audition 'so, Meghan, do you remember that film when an American girl suddenly finds out she is a princess, well is is essentially the same, except you have to marry a minor British royal.. We can give you an initial five year contract. Are you familiar with Stanislavski?I

For the whole time she will be mic'd up to take direction.

boatass · 19/05/2018 08:59

Stop making posts then and stfu

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 19/05/2018 09:07

So many posters who are sick of the royal wedding posting on threads about " the royal wedding " Grin twits.

FizzyGreenWater · 19/05/2018 09:10

We will watch bits if only because DC want to see it. It's like Eurovision or something though isn't it. Fine to want to turn on and see the circus, doesn't mean you're a sleeping-bag carrying superfan

FizzyGreenWater · 19/05/2018 09:13

And as for being sick of it- I've hardly heard anything about it tbh! The only time it's been a topic in earshot is in the news last night and a couple of days ago when youngest DC told me breathlessly that they BET I couldn't guess how much the cake cost. No, I can't! I replied. 'It was... a hundred and fifty POUNDS mum 😂

Brendaofbeechhouse · 19/05/2018 09:14

l think it is the assumption by the media that everyone is absolutely fascinated and enthralled by every piddling detail of this wedding, whereas many of us are either totally uninterested, or are just mildly curious about the dress.

Fintress · 19/05/2018 09:15

Thankfully in the wilds of Scotland no-one gives a toss. Each to their own, I have zero interest.

Notmyrealname85 · 19/05/2018 09:17

The whole concept is dumb... like a family who are just inherently better than us? I don’t care if it apparently brings money in (I mean France still gets tourists...), the whole principle is so wrong. And to spend such amounts on a wedding when your whole branding is “we’re humanitarians”. My arse. Showing up to events other people have organised and flashing a smile is not work

It is so disappointing seeing people wave flags at a couple they don’t know, because of this at least 100 years out dated system.

How do people not see it’s “bread and circuses” allllllllll over again, we’re going to be stuck supporting this dumbass family forever and it makes me so sad

Notmyrealname85 · 19/05/2018 09:18

But respect to those who put the time in, Queen and princess Anne

Yes I know the others might put the time in in future, but we haven’t seen a tonne of that to date. And again... whole concept is wrong

LakieLady · 19/05/2018 09:21

I'm tired of every news bulletin featuring interviews with flag-waving twats getting over-excited about a wedding between 2 rich and privileged people, but apart from that, it hasn't really entered my consciousness much.

I'm also intrigued to know if they did clear the homeless off the streets of Windsor and, if so, how many of them snuck back by pretending to be wedding-watchers.

ChevalierTialys · 19/05/2018 09:22

Pretty sick of seeing it pop up on every single source of media I access. Some of us just aren't interested.

Brendaofbeechhouse · 19/05/2018 09:30

Apparently a homeless charity organised a bus for the homeless to sleep in, but the Windsor police kidnapped it.

auditqueen · 19/05/2018 10:27

I hate the way that the media has been forcing it down our throats for weeks and the assumption that everyone is excited and a royalist and that this is a good thing. It is nice to sometimes have a place to be where people who don't give a fuck, who are republicans, who object very strongly to paying for this farce and who are just not interested, can actually be heard - because the bias from the Media has been immense.

Brendaofbeechhouse · 20/05/2018 08:37

Yesterday I went by train to a nearby city thinking it would be quiet, Was it fuck - couldn't get a seat on the train, both stations rammed, shops, parks, eating places packed.

It really doesn't l ook like the whole nation was enthtalled

FaFoutis · 20/05/2018 11:21

Leeds was packed solid yesterday but there were only a few people watching the wedding on the big screen in the square.

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 20/05/2018 12:06

You're allowed to say shit on here, no need for the sh*t malarkey.

papayasareyum · 20/05/2018 12:15

my Facebook feed yesterday had lots of republicans who, in previous days had said the royal wedding was so dull and they weren’t interested, yet turned up yesterday to comment throughout the day about how lovely it was and how nice she looked and how right on it was with the diversity stuff. Which it was. Ironically, they commented more about it than I did and I’m the royalist! Grin
