To think most people wouldn't swap lives with a Royal?

I think the scrutiny would just be too much and would prefer to keep my anonymity.

Would you swap your life for a life as a major Royal (e.g. Kate Middleton)?

No way. Not in a million years. Not being able to spend much time alone or bugger off somewhere on a whim, constant focus on what you look like, terrorists fantasizing about blowing you up...

MightyMucks · 18/05/2018 20:31

Damn bloody straight I would. I’m a lazy cow.

BossWitch · 18/05/2018 20:32

No way. I'm far too ugly, I'd hate all the horrible things that would inevitably be said and written about my appearance.

slowlywiltingpetal · 18/05/2018 20:33

I'm happy being me, I've long learnt (although I'm relatively old) that money doesn't buy you happiness. People change when money is involved.

I don't think I'd enjoy living in a massive manor either, my retirement plan is small cottage or bungalow, hopefully near the sea. Imagine having to clean and furnish all those rooms, I think a lot of stately homes go due to inheritance tax etc as it's mental, then you've got upkeep.

Just seeing the scrutiny MM & KM faced and face, you would have to be a tough character. I was shocked to see a discussion about reports that KM is now stick thin in time for wedding - yay! Seriously! Confused

I think entering the upper class circles, you'd be daft not to be aware of all the scrutiny that comes with it. But I admire Princess Anne's children who are relatively off the radar. I don't think you really hear anything much about Princess Anne. I think she does the most royal engagements by far too.

Housewife2010 · 18/05/2018 20:33

I'd love to be Kate (if I could have her figure too - I wouldn't want mine to be scrutinised).

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 18/05/2018 20:36

I bloody would in a heartbeat.
So a few tosspots in the Daily Mail would perhaps give you a hard time over your hair do when you went to open a hospital.
Big freaking deal, I could cope.

starlightmeteorite · 18/05/2018 20:37

I'd do it. From where I'm standing Kate's life looks amazing to me. Yes, she has to look nice whenever she goes out, but is that so hard when you have a gym, personal trainer, stylist, hair stylist, and a nanny to mind the kids while you beautify yourself? I reckon even I could look pretty hot with that much help! Yes, she has to attend boring engagements, but the hours she works are minimal compared to most women.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 18/05/2018 20:39

I'd like it now because I've been able to grow up in a 'normal' environment but I'd worry about my children a lot. I'd say that it wouldn't be worth it for their sakes. That said, I suspect the the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge actually do a very good job of keeping the lives of their children as normal as possible.

Shambu · 18/05/2018 20:44

Hell no. When people talk about 'privilege' I'm baffled, it's a fucking awful life in goldfish bowl.

Hushnownobodycares · 18/05/2018 20:46

Yep.

Skipping about cutting the odd ribbon or shaking hands with a ruddy faced provincial mayor seems very fair exchange for the massive perks and privilege they enjoy.

Extravagant · 18/05/2018 20:46

No, I would be furious at people following me and taking loads of unflattering pictures etc. I hate being on show. Yes to being an anonymous millionaire though or possibly a minor royal/celebrity who is mainly unrecognised.

slowlywiltingpetal · 18/05/2018 20:51

I will admit my views of MM have pretty much gone from being indifferent, to feeling quite sorry for her, as everyone thinks they're entitled to an opinion, because x/y/z happened bla bla bla. As if they've been appointed Royal Correspondent.

I honestly wish them the best day tomorrow and every happiness for the future. Maybe what has happened will make Harry think well I do want to be off the radar, this has been hell, I think he is expected to pick up duties though given he's the future kings son. I've always thought the media scrutiny of both PW & PH must be daunting.

I don't know if when George & Charlotte grow up he can pull back more, but I'm guessing for the moment he's stuck taking over from his Grandparents.

If you think Prince & Princess Michael of Kent still get scrutiny, as the Queens cousins, it makes you wonder what life will be like for say the younger royals, when PW becomes King.

To be honest I think have your opinion, but you still wish people the best.

MM's delightful HB is here hoping for a last minute invitation maybe, it's sad in a way as I think, it's only my thoughts, that money along with a gagging clause is the only way forward. I read he claimed to have caused his uproar as he felt ignored by KP. It makes you wonder what any of them realistically expect(ed) Including the ex SIL & nephews.

A lot of girls might think twice about the whole Princess dream.

SadSongsAndWaltzes · 18/05/2018 20:52

Absolutely! You'd never have to worry about money, you'd have all the time in the world for hobbies/ charity/ beautifying/ shopping, and you get to swan around meeting interesting people. Even I could look presentable with all the money, help and time they've got. And I'm sure I could cope with the odd bitchy journalist :-)

lanbury · 18/05/2018 21:03

No way. Not a moment of the day would be your own. Guilded cage. No thanks, and that's before the media put the screws on you.

auditqueen · 18/05/2018 21:04

Nope. I prefer to live a life that's moderately useful rather than being a silent clotheshorse.
I'm also a rabid, rampant republican so would actually like to become the monarch so I can abdicate and plunge the whole shitty affair into chaos so this country could finally grow the fuck up and become a republic.

HotSauceCommittee · 18/05/2018 21:05

No. I have a resting bitch face and if the tabloids called poor old Fergie the “Duchess of Pork”, they be calling me “Princess of the Pies”.

NotSureThisIsWhatIWant · 18/05/2018 21:07

I would change it for Harry’s, he always seemed to make it all about the fun.

I would obviously wouldn’t be getting naked in parties or dressing as a nazi so I suppose I would be fine.

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 18/05/2018 21:08

Absolutely! never worry about money, never worry about your children, the best medical team on call 24/7, no NHS waiting list, your kids have access to the best schools in the country.

You chose where you live and how much you are on the public eye, you have unlimited access to any area you are interested in. There are official engagements, and an army of staff to help you prepare for the few hours you spend here and there.

Sign me in any time!

Echobelly · 18/05/2018 21:09

God no! There are perks but it is constant duty. My mum was a local mayor one year and that was bad enough, loads of commitments every single day. Being a royal would be like doing that your whole life! With some very nice holidays interspersed, admittedly. And I imagine much of what seems glamorous to us gets pretty boring and mundane for royals and celebrities.

Luisa27 · 18/05/2018 21:10

No way

BonnieF · 18/05/2018 21:13

Absolutely no chance.

Imagine having to be nice to those halfwit flag-waving royalist idiots....

Kate & Meghan are both old enough and bright enough (unlike Diana) to understand what they are getting themselves into, but as far I’m concerned, they’re welcome to it.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 18/05/2018 21:15

Not for a single second.

Last Saturday I went out and got absolutely shitfaced, Riverdanced across a main road, stole a hat from a man and fell into my front door after 3am singing love songs to DH before spending all of Sunday looking and smelling like turps and despair.

I couldn't do a single one of those things if I were Royal and what's the point of life if you can't sing My Cherie Amour to your DH whilst strumming on a loaf of tiger bread from time to time?

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 18/05/2018 21:24

Absolutely would love it! The palace PR machine have done a fantastic job of getting people to believe their lives are truly awful but I could cope , yes will get some aggro from the press but a lot of it will be fawning adulation so it would balance out, riches beyond my wildest dreams, a weekend stately home, a wing at Kensington palace, staff, luxury travel to name but a few things, I’m good at making small talk so cutting a few ribbons a week for all the returns would suit me just fine!

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 18/05/2018 21:29

I don't think their "duties" and the 4 engagements a month Kate usually does are glamorous, at all, but frankly neither is my full time job. I still take the royal life any day!

dailymailsucksbigtime · 18/05/2018 21:51

To know that your child is going to be born into a life in which they have no choice but to be monarch-a type of slavery really.
