To feel a little grossed out by shoes off rule in summer

Highhorse1981 · 18/05/2018 16:26

Just had beautiful new carpet laid

Usual rule of shoes off when coming in from outside applies

However at this time of year that often involves bare feet and it makes me twitchy seeing sweaty mucky feet from wearing sandals on my beautiful carpet

I would never Say anything to an adult but am I alone in hating bare feet in my home but then also not wanting sandals to be kept on

Basically I’m being a difficult bugger

Last time I went swimming I got some of those blue foot cover things from a dispenser on the wall. I was a spectator so put them over my shoes and brought loads home

I am going to buy an attractive basket and hand them out routinely to everyone who dares to trample on my gorgeous carpet.
Genius, thanks op, or be like me and hate having visitorsGrin

mavismcruet · 18/05/2018 22:38

I used to have a really anal houseproud great auntie who had weird plastic runners over her carpets. I grew up vowing never to be that fussy. Feet and germs run free in my house Grin

Nakedavenger74 · 18/05/2018 22:41

I sometimes wonder how some people manage to get through the day if this is one of their worries...

RachelTeeth · 18/05/2018 22:45

Why not have flooring comprised of three inch deep bleach? Or a powerhouse filled with bleach to hose off people approaching your house? Humans are fucking rancid, you could have an archway made of fire to cleanse the disgusting bastards at your gate.

Better to be safe and keep those festering carpets at their peak.

RachelTeeth · 18/05/2018 22:48

I have verrucas, would anyone obsessed with their floors want me round their house with my herpes laden feet in sweaty socks, or my actual herpes ridden feet with skin flakes and sweat bare on their floors? Which would be worse?

RachelTeeth · 18/05/2018 22:49

(I meant powerHOSE. Not sure what a powerhouse is, but it sounds clean and therefore safe.)

MaireadMacSweeney · 18/05/2018 22:55

Only on Mumsnet are carpets "disgusting" Grin

Chesntoots · 18/05/2018 22:57

Must admit, like other pps, my first thought was a basket of artisanal slippers.

Showing my MN age....

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 18/05/2018 22:59

Seems to me there is a simple solution. To paraphrase the Sex Pistols, fuck this fascist regime that prohibits wearing socks and sandals.

If we have socks + sandals outdoors, then we can have socked feet indoors!

Mind you, I also think that the amount of social angst over the sighting of bare feet is exactly as ridiculous as the apocryphal horror the Victorians were alleged to feel if they saw table legs uncovered.

GuntyMcGee · 18/05/2018 23:00

Not as bad as barely covered sweaty asses on your furniture, surely?

sarcasmisnotthelowestformofwit · 18/05/2018 23:00

Let people keep their fucking shoes on. Jesus. Where has all this naff taking shoes off come from?

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 18/05/2018 23:06

Maybe not, Gunty. I've been confidently assured that asses have difficulty climbing stairs, so the potential hygiene issues would at least be confined to the downstairs area.

I can't substantiate this one way or the other, as I have a dismount-equines as well as the usual shoes-off policy for visitors to the house.

Bumdishcloths · 18/05/2018 23:07

Why would you have carpet in a dining room where food may get dropped? Ew.

As for feet/shoes it's unlikely someone will have stepped in dog shit with their bare feet but far more likely their shoes will have been in the vicinity of some revolting things like that. Have a word with yourself, and just don't have anyone over ever again.

JassyRadlett · 18/05/2018 23:16

I think some people have lost sight of the point of floors.

eggncress · 18/05/2018 23:23

How about some sacks for people to get into ? You could keep them at the door and it covers their bums too so your floor and sofa stay clean ?

Nakedavenger74 · 18/05/2018 23:54

Err.. I can't believe you are allowing people to walk on your carpet. Your children play on there!!!! That's sooooo gross!!
I have installed a rope and pulley system to ensure germ ridden visitors don't touch my floors. To be on the safe side I replace my carpets twice a week lest anything has fallen from them. Anything less is disgusting sorry
If anyone complains you don't want to be friends with them anyway. Ewwwwwww!! How disgusting are they? Your house your rules hun.

Nakedavenger74 · 18/05/2018 23:57

Arf at 'archway made of fire'

AjasLipstick · 18/05/2018 23:59

I always remember the time I had to call into a school mum's house one day after picking up her DD for her....she said "Oh come in for a coffee!" so I did but she said "Shoes off everyone!"

I was wearing winter boots with no bloody socks as I'd been in a rush and the walk is only 5 mins.

I had to take off my boots and have my sweaty feet out. Blush

I have overshoes for this reason. When weari g flip flops. Feet get dirty.
My hall and lounge carpet is light cream, almost white tbh.
It would mark with dirty flip flip feet.
I also don't have dark socks either..

But to be completely honest. I had quite bad anxiety which was worse when things get dirty.so all my family and friends understand, and tbh. I. Tend to do the visiting, rather than them here, as for some reason I feel uncomfortable with people, relaxing in my home, again makes me anxious

The carpet has been down 7 years and no stains or anything yet.

I bulk buy the overshoes, disposable ones
My BF and Sis etc have slippers they keep here for the odd time they visit

Alwayssearching · 19/05/2018 00:06

Flip flop

Tringley · 19/05/2018 00:08

Why are bare feet worse than shoes that have been walking over mud, dog shit, spit, vomit etc on the pavements?

What the actual fuck kind of pavements do you have where you live? It sounds horrendous, too horrendous to be true in fact.

GnotherGnu · 19/05/2018 00:13

If you don't realise all those things are on pavements all over the place, Tringley, you're leading a very sheltered life.
