Does Fortnite turn your kid into an arsehole too?

Just banned DS12 off it for life and put the Xbox in the bottom of my wardrobe. He is generally a lovely kid but holy fuck does this game turn him into a monster. And no matter how many times I shout (yes I know) STOP SHOUTING he still continues to bellow at his mates about twatting Spooky Towers or whatever the fuck it is called.

Fucking hell fire.

Feenie! I don't! They don't have consoles in school, or the game! My goodness.

Feenie · 20/05/2018 12:32

I'm SO glad I'm not one of your pupils. You sound very boring.

Jesus Christ - how old are you?

Are you totally incapable of having an adult discussion without resorting to shite like that?

On a note like that, I think I've said all I have to say regarding the suitability of using Fortnite in a primary classroom. I'm not going to continue demeaning myself by engaging in a slanging match with someone who posts crap like that.

KathyBeale · 20/05/2018 12:33

I’ve not read this full thread but just wanted to add that my kids were so rude and horrible after playing Fortnite that I deleted it.

And it is WAY more violent than slaughtering animals on Minecraft. Mine have developed an extensive knowledge of assault rifles and guided missiles thanks to Fortnite. And they talk about how many kills they’ve had. I loathe it. But I loathe all computer games. I think they’re weird!

ICantCopeAnymore · 20/05/2018 12:36

Aw Feenie - one rule for you and another for me, eh?

Roomba · 20/05/2018 14:06

I also have a 12YO who plays Fortnite.

I also have to ask him to STOP BELLOWING!

He doesn't have the voice chat bit turned on, so that's something, but we all get yelled at for interrupting or distracting him. Not acceptable.

Drives me up the bloody wall - he's had a couple of bans from playing ti for several days, and been made to turn it off on many occasions, as he just can't control himself sufficiently. It makes for a horrible atmosphere when he's shouting at his little brother for daring to breathe in the same house while he plays.

I had several years of Minecraft, Minecraft, Minecraft conversation 24/7 and I thought that drove me potty, but I do wish he'd return to Minecraft instead Grin

KappaKappa · 20/05/2018 20:24

I'm SO glad I'm not one of your pupils. You sound very boring.
I am so glad I’m not one of your colleagues as you sound very childish!

ICantCopeAnymore · 20/05/2018 20:44

I am. Really helps my teaching Smile

mellicauli · 20/05/2018 20:51

Ok guys. I have a plan. Let's all go on Fortnite every night for 2 weeks. We can play the game and in between chat about garden centres, the royal wedding and The Archers. Together we can kill this, just like we killed Facebook.

Lweji · 20/05/2018 20:53

I don't need to play it. I can just add background comments when DS is playing. 😈

KappaKappa · 20/05/2018 20:57

Smile good for you. You sound like such a cool and effective primary school teacher

waits for ICantCope to get the last word again

ICantCopeAnymore · 20/05/2018 21:20

I am. Don't forget award winning Wink

The last word? You said something about me, I replied. As I'm doing now. Happy to have the last word though, if it pleases you so much.

Feenie · 20/05/2018 21:24

Sparklebox creator Daniel Kinge also won teaching awards. Which pretty much says it all, really.

What kind of dick boasts about their awards on a parenting forum anyway!

Oblomov18 · 20/05/2018 21:30

Yes. Keep banning Ds1 and Ds2.
Received the school warning emails. Thought what a load of tosh,it can't have that much effect. Can't be that bad surely? Ever since I've been constantly banning it!

Twounder1 · 20/05/2018 21:36

Whilst my dcs aren't old enough for games, my dp is an obsessed gamer.
Luckily he hates fortnite but Overwatch it a different thing all together.

I'll get the kids to sleep and hear "FOR FUCK SAKE GENJI. YOU CAN'T FUCKING PLAY HIM" Followed by "I'M DELETING THIS FUCKING GAME, I REMEMBER WHY I HATE IT" followed by 7 more matches cause he can't keep off it and is trying to get higher than platinum. This woke the kids up every time so I've banned it.

ICantCopeAnymore · 20/05/2018 21:38

This massive dick! Smile

DoNotGoSoftly · 21/05/2018 02:17

It seems someone misunderstood.

Fortnite is all about getting kids to spend cash on in game currency. The game itself is not a scam.

BUT THERE IS A GROUP USING A FAKE WEBSITE ON FORTNITE TO CON SOME MONEY VIA MOBILE BILLING.

That is what I meant. Caps just to highlight.

Roomba · 21/05/2018 07:51

My 12.5yo has never sent a penny on Fortnite and is probably far more aware of how to avoid scams like that than I am (and I'm not daft about this stuff, I've taught Internet safety to kids). He prefers not to pay for loads of addons to games anyway as he says if that's the only way you can get through the game it is a pretty crap game. Just hope he stays this sensible, but even if not, he has no access to any credit/debit card info anyway as I am not risking any mistakes!

eileandonan · 21/05/2018 08:27

Roomba same as my DS. Never been in a position to spend anything anyway!

KathyBeale · 21/05/2018 10:28

They are discussing Fortnite on Woman’s Hour right now.

Lweji · 21/05/2018 10:31

That will be the end of the game, then. Grin

pollyanna62 · 05/07/2018 12:05

Glad to hear so many of you are experiencing the same. My 15-year-old son has turned into a rude, sullen uncommunicative monster - I feel responsible for allowing it in the first place. I have now blocked his computer and laptop from the Internet router after 9pm. He is not happy, to put it mildly!

Subtlecheese · 05/07/2018 12:20

My two daughter's are bored and eye rolling about people in their classes and friendship groups being Fortnite bores. I think it is happening. Fortnite has certainly informed who in my eldest's friendship group is deemed dating worthy in the last month of drama Confused. I am just glad my two aren't very into computer games. Between the fn scam and the Roblox rape It's not a good pr week for games.

Subtlecheese · 05/07/2018 12:21

I mean. I think it is happening that even their peers are bored with this antisocial fortnight obsessives

JustWantCake · 05/07/2018 12:29

I don't think is restricted to just Fortnite, its just this game is so hugely popular so it seems its Fortnite causing it. I think it is multiplayer games in general.

I used to be an arsehole due to gaming, it became an addiction which turned me into someone whose sole purpose in life was to get the next chance to game. TBF I did make a significant income off gaming which probably helped drive my justification for my addiction.

I'm not sure what the answer is, but gaming really does need careful management somehow as it can be so toxic and consuming. Sometimes it feels like it must be designed to be purposefully addictive.

(FYI, all fine now, haven't touched a game for ages, although its always in back of my mind, but it took me being sectioned to get the help I needed)

Clandestino · 05/07/2018 12:50

@croprotationinthe13thcentury Fortnite can turn kids into manic little monsters. It's moronic. DD tends to dance floss when she wants to get an irritated response from us because she knows it's annoying but fortunately she lost interest in the game.
DD and DH are both gamers and I don't mind those games but tbh Fortnite was the worst as it's promoting the worst aspects of schoolyard behaviour. I'd rather her playing a FPS carnage fest.
