Do you judge people who don't mow or weed their lawn?

Do you? Mine was overgrown for a little while and everyone else's was freshly cut, I felt a bit scruffy Blush

Is this a thing that people judge their neighbours on?

Yes, I judge. But probably because my DH is obsessed with the state of our lawn. If I actually had to do any lawn maintenance myself, I probably wouldn't be arsed and would consider a slovenly lawn entirely reasonable.

MissMooMoo · 19/05/2018 10:03

It used to annoy me and then I gave birth last year at the end of May and just had no time to get stuff done with a newborn!
People just may have lots going on.

Witchend · 19/05/2018 10:07

Hope no one does, as we have two mowers. One broke end of last Autumn, so we thought we'd use the other. That one won't start. So we're trying to get hold of a spare part for the first, and it's proving difficult.
Currently we have a nice wildflower meadow out front.

I was thinking of putting a notice up:
"Anyone who want to complain at the length of the lawn please knock and I'll give you a pair of scissors to do it yourself."

My husband keeps ours pristine. I don’t judge other people’s unmown lawns, but I do think ours is nicer!

Like @Neolara, if it was down to me, I wouldn’t bother, or be able to be proud of it.

Lethaldrizzle · 19/05/2018 10:14

Is that a euphemism Wink

QueenofSerene · 19/05/2018 10:17

No, I’m more likely to judge people with immaculate lawns. I remember my childhood neighbour going out to her (fake) lawn with fucking tweezers she was that pedantic!? Yet they’d call the council on my folks because our lawn was unkempt mainly because my parents worked nights and slept during the day and it wasn’t a priority. Personally if I owned my house I’d concrete the whole frigging lot! I hate gardening!

LakieLady · 19/05/2018 10:21

We didn't mow ours for most of last year because we had ragwort in our lawns that were covered in cinnabar moth caterpillars.

Cinnabars are beautiful! We don't seem to get them here, but a few years ago, I was staying with a friend near Solihull and we took the dogs for a walk in some country park and it was inundated with them. Lovely things, and well done you for encouraging them.

Oldraver · 19/05/2018 10:39

Soupdragon I manage to harvest three pounds of seeds last year and that was only about 3/4 of the poppies. I just left to seed themselves.. I never realised the wonderful colour combinations they have

VileyRose · 19/05/2018 10:40

I love the daisies, clovers and Violets on my lawn for bees and birds

Oldraver · 19/05/2018 10:42

Fresta... I've had no luck with relocating any poppies..they actually seem quite fragile once you take them out of the soil. I've got enough seeds to keep them going though

GreenTulips · 19/05/2018 10:50

We mow once a week or so, the neighbour said opposite mow every few days, and has been caught mowing ours and several neighbours lawns in a regular basis!! She can't help herself!!

MarklahMarklah · 19/05/2018 11:00

No, but then my lawn is a (very) small meadow. It gets trimmed every so often.

BrownTurkey · 19/05/2018 11:04

Not if it makes mine look better. Wink But might annoy me if I am trying to sell.

SoupDragon · 19/05/2018 11:23

This is mine. Judge away.

SoupDragon · 19/05/2018 11:23

Ugh! Fat fingers!

Do you judge people who don't mow or weed their lawn?
Oldraver · 19/05/2018 11:42

Another reason for mowing around the buttercups...

Gives the cat somewhere to ambush me from

rainbowfudgee · 19/05/2018 12:45

No. My rabbits mow and weed mine for me.
