Do you judge people who don't mow or weed their lawn?

Do you? Mine was overgrown for a little while and everyone else's was freshly cut, I felt a bit scruffy Blush

Is this a thing that people judge their neighbours on?

I love the buttercups and daisies on our lawn Smile

Bearhunter09 · 17/05/2018 13:43

Yes our neighbour is a lazy fucker. Have to keep curmtting back ivy, broken fence panels slung on the ground knee high grass. She’s tried paving most of it but high weeds grown up through the cracks. We are going to have to cover the fence as it’s s slatted fence and can see through it. If you have a garden you have a responsibility to the neighbours to keep it at least tidy

TheCraicDealer · 17/05/2018 13:43

We don't have a lawnmower at the moment so we've definitely been guilty of this in the last year since we moved in. I've got a guy to come over every two weeks or so to do it this summer- £10, front and back, worth every penny Grin

The semi attached to us are much more relaxed. I'm not bothered about the lawn really as they do cut it eventually, but in the year they've lived there they've never weeded. The grassy weeds now make the flowerbeds look like the Serengeti. I try to remember that they (health worker,

I don't judge people on their lawns as there are far bigger things in life to worry about, but then I don't live in a show home either. Most of my neighbours do judge one neighbour though who never mows her lawn. Mainly because it has put some people off buying houses. She is a lovely person and I tell people that. If she doesn't want to mow her lawn, it is nobody's business but hers.

Mine is mown every few weeks as I have to pay somebody to do it and I can't afford £20 a fortnight.

megletthesecond · 17/05/2018 13:46

Not really. I do judge people who weed out daisies. Perfect lawns are for Wimbledon, not homes.

BitOutOfPractice · 17/05/2018 13:46

I don't judge no. Partly because I've never mowed a lawn in my life so I have no position to judge from.

Mowed grass does look tidier though. But if it wasn't my own I wouldn't care

DuchyDuke · 17/05/2018 13:47

Yes I would judge because I’m a bitch and scruffy front lawns annoy me.

thetriangleisarealinstrument · 17/05/2018 13:48

No. Unless it was really a state, like full of rubbish and broken furniture.
Long grass and weeds would not bother me. Some people let their gardens become wildernesses on purpose.. I think if its their house its up to them how they want their garden, as long as its not causing a health issue.

ProperLavs · 17/05/2018 13:48

yeah I judge- mow the bloody lawn- it looks shit.

EmmaStone · 17/05/2018 13:49

I think if I couldn't afford a lawnmower, I'd ask to borrow a neighbour's. I'd happily lend ours out to any neighbours. I don't judge a person per se, like PP have said, life can take over, but it does make me a bit sad to see wild front gardens.

QueenOfMyWorld · 17/05/2018 13:49

I like mine v short just done it today but wouldn't judge others

Do you judge people who don't mow or weed their lawn?
lindyhopy · 17/05/2018 13:50

Yes one of my neighbours mows about once a year and it looks scruffy and makes him seem lazy

Sweetlullaby · 17/05/2018 13:50

I judge the nextdoor neighbours communal garden, no one takes responsibilty and its a fucking forest, destroyed the fencing. Once it was cut, only because one of the flats were selling up. Its gone back to normal again :(

mydogisthebest · 17/05/2018 13:53

No, I really could not care less whether someone cuts their grass or not. I certainly wouldn't think anything about weeds either. I don't like perfect grass and the insects need the weeds.

My neighbour who is in her 90's has her grass cut about twice a week. Now that I think is very strange. It looks awful most of the time

Tinkobell · 17/05/2018 13:55

Not really, couldn't give a shit. I'd just think that they're busy people. Anyway, uncut grass is very good for bees and butterflies 🦋
I'm a garden designer by the way in an upmarket area.
Knackered old car, trash and tied up barking dog.....tut tut!!!😁

Tinkobell · 17/05/2018 13:57

Actually I do judge people harshly who can't be arsed to wheel their bins back in for a whole week, post empty. That's very very lazeeeee!

Strugglingtodomybest · 17/05/2018 13:58

I wouldn't judge but I do wonder why some people don't bother cutting the grass at all?

I don't cut the grass at all and the reason for this is that I don't like the look of manicured lawns, I much much much prefer to see a meadow-like garden with lots of insect and bird life in it. I do have a pet rabbit running wild though, he loves to eat the grass and I love to see him poking his head out of it, he looks particularly cute at this time of year with all the buttercups.

Goldmonday · 17/05/2018 14:00

No because I always have the worst lawn on the street

Gemini69 · 17/05/2018 14:00

I'm a MOWER Grin loooong straight endless perfect lines in my back garden... and I use a wee qualcast push mower in my front garden.. which I love .. it's pure mundane solitary therapy .. it's my happy place... well that and my pressure washer... make me very happy Grin but I never judge my.. miles away neighbours gardens... ever Flowers

ok.... just realised I sound like a bore... Smile

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 17/05/2018 14:03

Any grass, any condition or length doesn’t bother me - plastic grass on the other hand...

Ebeneser · 17/05/2018 14:12

I don't judge, as my garden can get a bit overgrown. I try and keep on top of it though as it's more of a PITA to cut when it gets to knee height. Also long grass encourages more cats to poo in my garden for some reason (and the dog keeps eating cat poo!), usually right near my washing line!

FuckKnuckle · 17/05/2018 14:13

A lot of you would hate me, then. We moved in not that long ago, put fruit trees in the front garden, and bought a woodland meadow mix of seeds to go around them. The wildflowers are just starting to appear amongst the grasses. It ain't getting mown until late summer/early autumn; we'd much rather watch the birds and the insects than a bowling green.
Like a pp, I hate plastic grass, though.

BlackeyedSusan · 17/05/2018 14:17

you need to let it get long enough and weedy enough to be a wildflower meadow and mow it once all the seeds have dropped.

MereDintofPandiculation · 17/05/2018 14:19

Yes, I'd judge. I'd think "yes, that's someone who has decided to let the grass and the wildflowers grow" and feel more friendly towards them. I feel much less favourably disposed to people who mow their lawn regularly and apply "weed and feed" treatments. At present, gardens are more environmentally friendly than most farming land, but that doesn't mean to say more couldn't be done.

Our Council leapt at the chance of reducing the mowing on an area of the park; we now have orchids.
