depending on where you look ‘normal’ is between 21-31% apparently.

I thought mine would be quite low but still within normal. But I’ve just done it and it’s 30%!

OP posts:
Veterinari · 16/05/2018 17:10

Mine is 22% last measured on one of those things 2 months ago. I am 5ft 2, 65kg and work out for an hour a day.
This is quite interesting because I'm the same height, but more than 10 kilos lighter, yet 30% fat. How does that work?

You have less muscle mass

SocksRock · 16/05/2018 17:16

38%. Denials, 5'8" tall, 13st6 and wear a 14 (16 on top for the boobies).

I need to lose at least 2 stone and do a lot of toning up!

Aeroflotgirl · 16/05/2018 17:16

Sorry Veterinari just re read it, Fat=22kg-31.9%

SocksRock · 16/05/2018 17:16

Female, not denials, bloody autocarrot

honeyishrunkthekid · 16/05/2018 17:19

18%
58kilos

Just for context.
But these machines are not accurate. I go off body shape and how I feel

AgeingArtemis · 16/05/2018 17:19

Anything that's not a DEXA scan is notoriously innaccurate.

I've never had it done properly, but the machines where you hold the handles in the gym would tell me anything between 14.5% and 18%. I am young (early twenties) and pretty fit with more muscle mass than average, BUT I don't lift weights seriously (ie according to a program) and you wouldn't look at me and think I'm "shredded" so those numbers are almost certainly wrong for a "normal" female.

I have a fancy scale at home which tells you your hydration status and body fat % and that seems to hover pretty steadily at 19.5ish which I think is more likely based on how I actually look and the fact that the number keeps coming back the same, compared to the gym one which has huge changes within a month.

If I had the money I'd love to get a DEXA to actually see my body composition! Based of pictures of other women and their DEXA scans I recon mine could be anywhere between 19-25%

bananafish81 · 16/05/2018 17:20

Those with body fat % of 15, 17 etc - what is your bmi?!

The recommended body fat % range for women is 20-25%

Categorisation broken down:

Essential fat 10-13%
Athletes 14-20%
Fitness 21-24%
Average 25-31%
Obese 32%+

My BMI is 18.5 with a 25" waist, and based on plugging my measurements into a body fat calculator, I'm 21%

15% sounds very very lean - like the kind of physique I'd expect from a competitive athlete (and even that is at the low end)

Furano · 16/05/2018 17:20

Just had a health check. 23%

Furano · 16/05/2018 17:22

My friend who is an international competative fell runner (top 20 In world) has a body fat % of 13% and she is super lean and looks it. It’s not a look most people would want to go for unless they were a top level athlete.

Hard to think ‘normal’ people are at 15...

Teacuphiccup · 16/05/2018 17:22

23%

BlueJava · 16/05/2018 17:24

52.8%!!

swingofthings · 16/05/2018 17:27

Obviously, but it seems an extreme difference for the same height and 10kgs difference. I am quite muscular, I too exercise daily. Last year, ran a half-marathon, did a triathon, two 120kms cycle, still didn't get below 29%.

BitOutOfPractice · 16/05/2018 17:27

According to Wikipedia, these are the levels:

                    Women Men

Lean 21–25% 14–17%
Normal 26–31% 18–22%
Overweight 32–39% 23–29%
Obese 40% or more 30% or more

Mine is 30. My BMI is 24.5. I'm a 50yo woman

MissCharleyP · 16/05/2018 17:30

23% - measured on my PTs scales today.

swingofthings · 16/05/2018 17:35

A couple of years younger, BMI 22.9, 30.5% fat to be exact. Maybe my scales are not very nice!

BitOutOfPractice · 16/05/2018 17:37

Scales, in my experience swing are generally spiteful bastards Wink

The difference will be height I suspect!

Aeroflotgirl · 16/05/2018 17:51

Well that's what the Boditrax results are, as I said, I do lots of different types of exercise, I walk I am active most of the day and hardly sit down. I do weights as well, Kickboxing which really is all encompassing, and a combat bootcamp with various exercises to build muscle, strength etc, I don't just slob out on the couch except in the evenings. I carry most of my fat on my legs, I can never shift that somehow.

Aeroflotgirl · 16/05/2018 17:55

So really according to Bitoutofpractice I fall into the normal range, I think some on here were expecting me to be in the obese range Hmm.

yaffingale · 16/05/2018 17:56

The scales that measure BF% are useless.

The most accurate way is to buy a pair of fat callipers. Really cheap off amazon

I'm about 18% 5ft 5, weigh 11st but I do have quite a lot of muscle

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 16/05/2018 17:56

18 or 19%

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 16/05/2018 17:57

BMI 18.5 approx

yaffingale · 16/05/2018 17:59

Sorry to add.. the most accurate way in the absence of a Dexa scam

noeffingidea · 16/05/2018 18:00

27% . Thats from doing measurements, and falls within the acceptable level for my age (58). BMI is 26, so would like to improve that a little bit.
Actually I know I have good muscle tone, because I can see and feel it, still got weight to lose from my midsection though.

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/05/2018 18:02

BMI 16.
I need to put on a few pounds I think, but I've health issues and my weight is last on the list of what needs to be sorted.
