AIBU copy and paste journalism

I'm SO angry at what happened today. However without making this a TAAT

Copy and paste journalism will continue

Is there any way we can make our threads safer ourselves? Can I write copyright at the end of a post and avoid a journalist bitch lifting?

Please share ideas.

Anyone?

OP posts:
ikeepaforkinmypurse · 16/05/2018 15:19

don't post onto a public internet forum?

Paie · 16/05/2018 15:20

what happened today?!

Also sadly, pretty sure writing the words "copyright" has no legal bindings Sad

I hate seeing mumsnet articles in daily fail and the like. Its easy pickings for journos though

WeWere0nABreak · 16/05/2018 15:21

Not if you put it on a public forum.

It's not fucking journalism. It's lazy lazy arse holes. It's the reality tv of the news world Angry

TheWomblerReturns · 16/05/2018 15:21

@ikeepaforkinmypurse many women end up in situations where reaching out on sites like mumsnet saves lives.

Many women post not in the best state of mind at incredibly emotional times.

It's a bit too simple to just "not post" for some

OP posts:
TheWomblerReturns · 16/05/2018 15:22

Thanks @Paie I had no idea if it did or not... hoped someone could come along to say

OP posts:
Chachachac · 16/05/2018 15:23

It’s a bit hard to respond to this without knowing what it’s about Confused

TheWomblerReturns · 16/05/2018 15:24

@Chachachac it's happened before, will happen again..,

Mumsnetter posts about difficult situation, journalist copies and pastes it to a wider audience

OP posts:
ikeepaforkinmypurse · 16/05/2018 15:24

It's very naive to think that you are safe and protected because you are on MN. Anyone has access to the site, the same way they have access to the DM or other.

MN post threads on facebook, they are reposted on reddit, on twitter.
You might read the DM more than you read other media, but someone else will see the same thing from another source.

It's about time adults take responsibility for what they post online. It's getting really boring.

Chachachac · 16/05/2018 15:25

A friend had a blog post lifted by a particular reputable broadsheet and rewritten in such a way that it looked like they’d interviewed her! Infuriating but a journo friend said it was par for the course Hmm

Chachachac · 16/05/2018 15:25

@wombler, oh yes of course ISWYM.

TheWomblerReturns · 16/05/2018 15:26

And while it's boring for you @ikeepaforkinmypurse there are women in DV, MH, bereavements etc who find support at MN

OP posts:
Paie · 16/05/2018 15:27

So there may not be anything that we can type in our posts to stop them from being stolen- but I often wonder if there are any "articles" out there that feature quotes from my account- or even threads made by me. It'd be nice if there was a simple rule that said they had to notify the OP of the "article" they're writing...

On the other hand its slightly worrying that "reliable" news sources trust a forum that absolutely anyone can post anything on with no source or proof.

PinkHeart5914 · 16/05/2018 15:27

this is also an open forum, anything you post on here in on public view.

The internet isn’t a secret safe world.

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 16/05/2018 15:28

You might find support, but what makes you think that this forum is any less public than a newspaper?

you can find threads just by googling a word. What makes you think for a second this is more private than another media exactly>

TheWomblerReturns · 16/05/2018 15:29

Mumsnet attracts vulnerable posters. It's a supportive site. It may be public but it's not broadcasting news

OP posts:
MissionItsPossible · 16/05/2018 15:29

I said on the thread it was disgraceful. I don't mind joke threads being lifted or the ones where OP is a snob or unhinged but that was sensitive information and could seriously get someone in trouble. Does anyone have the name of the 'journalist'? Felt like getting in touch and letting them know exactly that.

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 16/05/2018 15:31

You could use the financial angle, and complain that a newspaper makes money from a thread.

You cannot use the privacy angle, this is an internet forum, it's as public as it gets. If MN decides to put this thread on FB, one of your friend might come across it on their newsfeed without even looking.

BeefyCakes · 16/05/2018 15:34

There's nothing you can do as it's a public forum.

However you can change details so if it is lifted by a lazy journo then it won't be identifying.

I've seen lazy journos lift stories from all manner of forums, so it isn't just mn.

It's an easy way to get content for clicks.

TheWomblerReturns · 16/05/2018 15:35

If this thread gets anywhere I don't care. However I'm not a suicidal, mentally unstable, abused or bereaved poster currently

So fully aware of what I'm risking and don't believe I can have any problems from this thread

OP posts:
TheWomblerReturns · 16/05/2018 15:36

Hoping ideas can happen

OP posts:
MissionItsPossible · 16/05/2018 15:39

oh FFS just gave up on holding out visiting the website not wanting to give them the clicks and saw what I wrote has been included in there.

Btw, is this a user from here do you think as it's a comment left on there:

Congratulations Lydia for endangering the life of a vulnerable woman through your lazy journalism. Either get a job you're actually capable of doing properly or join your readership on benefits. I'm more than happy for my taxes to pay for your upkeep if it means you stop exploiting potential victims of domestic violence for the sake of clickbait.

TheWomblerReturns · 16/05/2018 15:41

Sorry @MissionItsPossible school run got in way of DM. Finally got to it

OP posts:
Spartacunt · 16/05/2018 15:43

Best advice is to change a few key details and make your user name Fuckyoupauldacre or similar.

TheWomblerReturns · 16/05/2018 15:47

I think posters tend to try and leave out details for security then get berated and end up revealing info to prove their genuine or clarify confusion
