SUITSGATE - To feel sorry for the Royal Wedding Table Planner

The table plans are written in calligraphy. The whole lot needs to be rewritten every time there is a change to the guest list. Is Mr Markle coming? If so, does he sit next to Camilla? Do they carry on hoping he’ll turn up and set a place at the top table for him? Do they not? If he turns up unexpectedly and they haven’t set him a place, will they pop a fold up chair at the end of the table and squeeze everyone up together in a Do You Think They Noticed kind of way?

The poor Table Plan Team.

Did Jamie Oliver invent bowl food? Asking for a friend.

Food served in a bowl. Is it a large one - like a trough? Or lots of little ones like a thali?

formerbabe · 16/05/2018 20:37

Still totally confused about bowl food Grin

Questions...

  1. Do you get loads of bowls? I mean if it's smaller portions, do you get lots of different ones...so it adds up to a normal portion?
  1. Why is it called bowl food? Does it have to be served in bowls? Can it be served on plates?

I love bowl food. I can eat them till the cows come home. I love the variety.

HasAnyoneGotAProblemWithThat · 16/05/2018 20:39

Last party I went to there was

Chicken curry
Chilli
Beef Noodles
Green curry
Plates of sushi
Shepherd pie

That’s all I remember

I had EVERYTHING

I’m very greedy

I clutched my pearls when I heard that the chosen members of the public were being told to bring a packed lunch and drink. How tight of the couple not to have catered for all guests, it’s not as though they can’t afford it.

Bring your own grub might be better than ‘bowl food ‘ though ! 😀

siwel123 · 16/05/2018 21:45

@formerbabe. There's lots of little ish bowls to eat from. Think small portions of proper food or bigger canapes.

Most is served in bowls, but small plates and cups can and have been used.

formerbabe · 16/05/2018 21:48

Thanks siwel123. Sounds like a nightmare to deal with...so much crockery needed surely!?

This is where we need Prince Philip’s Greek heritage to kick off the plate smashing

Except he was only born in Greece, and considers himself Danish.

The Greeks did away with their Royal family, decided it was a bad idea, but as they'd shot them all, they had to hunt round Europe for some more , Denmark obliged and sent their spare Prince (his grandfather). This is an article from 1992, where he's quite candid about his upbringing.

'If anything, I've thought of myself as Scandinavian. Particularly, Danish. We spoke English at home,' Prince Philip recalls today. 'The others learned Greek. I could understand a certain amount of it. But then the (conversation) would go into French. Then it went into German, on occasion, because we had German cousins. If you couldn't think of a word in one language, you tended to go off in another.' For Princess Alice (Philips mother), who had been almost completely deaf since catching German measles at the age of four, conversations in whatever tongue had to be translated into sign language.

@formerbabe. Yep a lot of crockery. The bowl then the cutlery. Imagine if 600 people come then times that by how many chocies. Wow that's a lot Grin

KateMiddletonsOtherMum · 16/05/2018 22:19

So do you pick up a bowl, eat the contents and then discard it? It has to be messy, surely? And wouldn’t you get indigestion by eating standing up?

You pass it onto the the many staff who float around and collect.
