Alcohol and children

Very stressful day. Would love to finish the bottle of wine left over from a recent bbq but I'm alone at home with the toddler and 7 month old baby.

AIBU to think it's not too awful to have a glass or two? The almost 2 years of bed sharing with one child or another up until now meant alcohol was completely ruled out. Now they are both in a bed of their own and sleep through the night.

Is it finally time for a shred of normality? Wine

They are up there with the exploding cars when people leave kids sleeping in a car on their own private drive in sight, the kidnsppers who strike when you pay for pertol at the forecourt, the deadly foxes eating sleeping babies iin their prams in gardens and the deadly cat poo lurking to kill in flower beds

My father was in hospital years ago and in the next bed was a teenager who had his hand bitten off by a crocodile who he had somehow managed to get into it's enclosure and smooth in an attempt to impress his girlfriend. I would love to see how some posters risk asses for that situation Grin

If I’m alone with my DC - I never drink more than one glass of wine? Wouldn’t expect DH to either - I just don’t think it’s responsible.
And believe me, I love wine..I’m Italian 😂

Luisa27 · 15/05/2018 23:53

P.S. Glad you enjoyed your glass OP - one of the joys of life 🍷

I'm a single mother and I have a glass of rose when she's asleep, maybe twice a week. I don't see the issue. I'm not steaming, I can hear her if she wakes and heaven forbid there was an emergency I'd get a taxi or an ambulance.

Ohmydayslove · 16/05/2018 00:30

Grin crocodiles wow!!

SoyDora · 16/05/2018 07:43

When my 9 month old fell off a changing table and we went to a&e, the Dr told us to go home and have a couple of glasses of wine to calm our nerves!

Lethaldrizzle · 16/05/2018 08:23

We don't have a car. Am I allowed to drink with children in the house Hmm

TheHulksPurplePanties · 16/05/2018 08:41

What Mumsnet users think happens after one drink vs. what actually happens after one drink.

ethelfleda · 16/05/2018 08:52

Good morning OP
I hope you had a nice relaxed evening Wink
I would have had a glass too Wine

LeapToad · 16/05/2018 09:28

I wouldn't worry about any 'unless you can't drive in an emergency' comments. I can't drive, we've had emergencies. Twice needing an ambulance (meningitis and breathing issues) and other times taken DC in a taxi when shes needed steroids for breathing. To be honest even if I did drive if I needed to take DC to hospital I'd get a taxi so they weren't sat alone in a car seat during the journey.

Lethaldrizzle · 16/05/2018 09:42

Thehulks - have you been in my house? Wine

TheHulksPurplePanties · 16/05/2018 09:57

Lethaldrizzle LOL. No. Honestly it's not quite that picturesque in my house with or without wine. More like this.

Alcohol and children

Just an update

Had a glass accompanied by some shameless Love Island watching. I didn't turn into a raging alcoholic, the children all survived and no crocodiles were encountered Grin
