my dp has believed this for 30 years. i honestly thought he was winding me up, but no. he really thought female lions are tigers Shock

to make matters worse, i told my db about this and he was really confused. he thought that was right too!

wtf! aibu to be in shock that they believed this or is it a common misconception?!

Firefighters don't use the tall towers to lookout for fires. They're for training exercises.

Thank you! I don't think I thought they were for spotting where fires were, but I didn't know they were for training exercises. Blush

Spudlet · 17/05/2018 17:46

Although I think tall towers were used to spot forest fires intemote areas of the US until really quite recently. Not so much in the UK though Grin

ItchySeveredFoot · 17/05/2018 18:08

My dp didn't know the dandelion thing either. He only found out last year. He's 32.

AmazingPostVoices · 17/05/2018 18:09

Tom they practice running up
and down them hauling hoses and things.

You should go to your local Firestation open day they are usually very interesting.

TomRavenscroft · 17/05/2018 18:17

Yes, I walk past the local fire station all the time and I'm sure have walked obliviously past open days before Blush

I'll have a gander next time.

I thought they still used lookout towers in North America? And I'm sure I was reading about someone who works on one in Australia recently.

I quite fancy it as a job I don't really like people, not even my own household sometimes

Gammeldragz · 17/05/2018 18:30

Not animal related, but I was in Belfast last weekend at a conference and we spent a few hours doing an open top bus tour. One of the stops was the titanic exhibition. I was ready with my camera to get a photo of the titanic...
I think I'd imagined they had spruced up the wreck and put a gift shop in or something. Admittedly hadn't given it much thought aside from getting a cool photo. My colleagues nearly wet themselves laughing at me, especially as I'm usually 'the clever one' who knows loads of random facts.
We can all have dumb moments.

MrsKoala · 17/05/2018 19:04

I didn't realise narwhal's were real till a few years ago. The first time i ever saw a reference one was at the beginning of the film Elf and i just assumed it was a magical made up animal. I still wouldn't be surprised if it was announced they were a huge joke on us all.

Gammeldragz · 17/05/2018 20:00

Yes narwhals were new to me too. I thought they were off the DCs' video games!

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 17/05/2018 20:23

Grin at these.

I used to think that a dog wearing a cone was hard of hearing.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 17/05/2018 20:24

😂😂😂😂

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 17/05/2018 20:32

Thanks @Perfectly, when I told my friend this she nearly collapsed laughing - at the time I was really cross with her as I thought she was sick for laughing at them Grin

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 17/05/2018 21:08

It just gets better and better! 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Greymisty · 17/05/2018 22:14

Grin😆😆😆Grin

goose1964 · 17/05/2018 22:24

My 1 year old grandson adores dogs and gets very excited if he sees one. The other day we were out and some had a dachshund and he took a glance at it, none of his usual squeals of excitement. He obviously doesn't think dachshunds are dogs

BMW6 · 17/05/2018 23:11

I think I'd imagined they had spruced up the wreck
Bloody well dying at that gem Grin
