To Ask What Business You Could Start Up With £1000.00

So I've got £1000.00 and a little bit of spare time. What kind of business could you start up for that outlay? What would you do?

All suggestions would be welcomed

I forgot to add, I'm not looking to make a living out this new business, just a bit of extra cash for holidays and savings and suchlike.

match betting is suppose to be quite good, there are lots of threads about how to do it.

A4710Rider · 15/05/2018 15:11

Hi Wish,

I already have accounts with all the High Street and some not so High Street bookmakers. But thanks.

Definitely matched betting, it doesn't matter if you already have accounts open.

WishTheGroundWouldSwallowMeUp · 15/05/2018 15:12

are you a gambler or match better?

A4710Rider · 15/05/2018 15:14

I thought matched betting was dependent on getting "free bets" from bookmakers and them laying them off?

How much spare time do you have and can you afford to lose your £1K stake?
If you are good at crafts a small craft business could, set up for £1K.
If you are more cerebral then matched betting or even penny shares (if your credit score will get you a good stock account).

A4710Rider · 15/05/2018 15:17

I can afford to lose the 1K stake but I obviously not want too.

I am in the bottom 1% for being good at crafts I'm afraid.

Hire a hall, do whatever you're skilled at in it.

Ebay business seller. Buy stock if you can sell it on and make a profit.

A4710Rider · 15/05/2018 15:32

I know someone who did really well at that. In fact I took her job when she left. I think she got a white Merc or BMW last year?

Never looked the type to be into Pyramid selling but she did well.

There you go - wine tasting and food matching...

arethereanyleftatall · 15/05/2018 15:40

Or stand at the front of the hall doing some star jumps. Charge £5 per kid for your 'kids aerobic class'

arethereanyleftatall · 15/05/2018 15:41

Can you run?
Loads of people round here charge others to go for a run with them in the free woods. And the incredible bit is...people pay!

They pay because it's motivating to pay in advance. They meet new people.
Advertising all done free on Facebook, and organiser laughs all the way to the bank.

Why not type £1k, instead of including the fact there are no pence in your thousand pounds?

Tuckingfypo · 15/05/2018 16:09

@nogrip does it REALLY matter? Hmm

SinkGirl · 15/05/2018 16:15

What are you good at? Everyone has something - it’s just turning it into a business that requires some creative thinking.

For example I used to sell things I made (knitting, cake decorating etc) but it was almost impossible to make a profit. So then I started teaching others to do it, and selling kits so people could do them themselves. I sell paper cutting template downloads, so once they’re designed and uploaded I don’t have to do anything at all aside from answer any queries.

I could start a course to help people address their OCD?

What are you good at

That's the thing, I'm not that good at anything, just very good a being mediocre at everything (apart from crafts, baking, sewing, gardening)

I was very much the entrepreneur kid at school, had 3 paper rounds and worked on a mushroom farm at the weekend. My mum and dad used to borrow cash from me when I was 14!

Loving this thread!

I am also useless at crafts and baking Blush.

My skills are graphic design, marketing & digital marketing. And that's it! (But I'm not good at sales / networking)
