To Ask What Business You Could Start Up With £1000.00

So I've got £1000.00 and a little bit of spare time. What kind of business could you start up for that outlay? What would you do?

All suggestions would be welcomed

mushroom farm at the weekend.

You’re qualified for management consultancy. Keep 'em in the dark and feed ‘em shit!

I kind of like the idea of finding some stock cheap from somewhere like an auction and then flogging it on ebay.

I figure it would fit around my drinking wine and pringles consumption quite easily.

Now, where to find decent stuff at cheap prices to flog......

Maybe look in to the franchise's of the kids music groups?
Like Jiggy Wrigglers or Music Bugs.... obvs only if you like kids ;-)

Love kids but that sounds like a lot of work for not much return, I also work FT.

What do Amazon do with all their returned stock?

You’ve got to focus on some skill set or interest, beyond the Pringle and wine consumption. Betting can be good if you are reasonably numerate, follow a plan and are rigidly consistent, you really can’t dip in and out. I know someone who started with free bets and has cleared 4k to 7k in the last few years. He uses the net gain to do fun things as he has a very well paid job. It’s a hobby really, an accountant colleague got him into it. It would bore the pants off me though, he spends a few hours a week with his little notebook!

Currency looks quite interesting to me. If you have the discipline.

Being entrepreneurial is about mindset - you need to be looking out for problems to solve, gaps to fill etc. If you already think that way then great, if not you have to adjust to it.

You must be good at something, even if it’s not explicitly a marketable skill. Maybe you’re really good at putting outfits together or shopping on a budget or whatever.

Look at The Apprentice- most years the teams do very well buying wholesale and selling retail. You’ll need to find wholesalers in your area.

House clearance is a good one, you get paid for doing the clearance and then you can sell anything of value. Can you upcycle furniture? So many things you can do.

RedPanda2 · 15/05/2018 21:47

A friend upcycles furniture she buys cheaply from car boot sales.
I am also mediocre at a lot of things 😆😆

Watching with interest. I have just started with the free bets on OddsMonkey and find their calculator oddly soothing - which is weird as I don't get excited by the actual betting!

OP, I think you should start a subscription box service based on wine and crisps. :-D.

You may also be interested in building an online shop (such as Shopify), but be prepared for a buggerload of work in getting the first sale.

Some good ideas here. Worth googling pink boutique - set up by a student after leaving university. she began by buying just 6 dresses wholesale/sold on ebay and kept buying stock with the profit and now turns over millions.
Doesn't have to be dresses of course - choose something you'd find interesting.
Two years ago I went to an auction house for first time (they had some piece of techy equipment which was selling online for a fortune. Sadly others had spotted it too and it went way above my max bid. However, I spotted a couple of beautiful old animal pictures - quite big but with very poor frames. Bought them despite hubby's protests for £18. I Put them on ebay with clear pictures showing all the damage and they were snapped up by a country pub for £50 plus £12 shipping. Sadly I also bought a box of very old collectable books and when I got home discovered they had something called can't remember the term maybe red rust or something so was stuck with them for 6 months until someone bought them for £40 (I had paid £35).
It is def possible to make money from auctions. You go to the viewing day, take pix/make notes and then look up how much various items are selling for online. Then set a max bid for the day of the sale.
