To wonder why people only do their own washing?

Just that really.

I see so many posts where people say DP's or any child over the age of about 12 do their own washing. Surely it's easier to just empty the laundry basket and do one wash of everyones washing rather than have 4 people do 4 washes with not much in it.

Nothing wrong with red sheets- each to their own.
I hate floral - we all all different.

Grin I wish. No just shiny hot slippery Satin

After a few accidents when we slipped completely out while 'moving about' I got a kingsize brass bed with white Egyptian cotton sheets. Much less hazardous Grin

It's about basket arrangements.

Kids share a basket in their bit of the house. DH has his own, o have my own. I do mine, he does his, we both do kids, mainly me but sometimes him (I'm home more).

I wouldn't pick his stuff out and put it back if we shared though!

And if he texted to ask if I could put a load on for him of course I would - you don't have to watch it go round and round 😎

My red sheets are pure cotton. A pig to ton but I like 100% cotton. Ds has 100 cotton red & blue bedding & dd has mint green 100 cotton covers with white fitted sheets.

To be fair my mum never taught me to use a washing machine. i left home at 16 and it wasnt rocket science.

NotWeavingButDarning · 17/05/2018 14:45

I honestly never imagined this could be such a divisive issue!

We have one laundry basket. When it's full, one of us (me, DC 10, or DC 6) throws a load of washing on. Whichever of us notices first then transfers to the dryer when the wash is done. Job done.

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/05/2018 15:48

I have mainly white duvet covers but often have them with a coloured or patterned sheet. Usually either duck egg, teal or beigy coloured.

IfNot · 17/05/2018 16:06

I don't have a drier. I have a Sheila Maid though. It's ace, things dry quicker up high and it's out of the way.

My guilty pleasure is I get my sheets pillowcases and duvet covers laundered. Total bliss but there is only the two of us so not too expensive. I used to get towels as well but since moving house and aquiring a utility room and room for my tumble dryer I do them myself. I do not trust my tumble dryer for sheets after once shrinking one of my good Sheridan pillow cases in it. I have been thinking of trying the new outdoor washing machine and tumbler dryers (at a filling station near us) but have no idea how they work and do not fancy standing in full view of the passing traffic trying to figure it out. Reckon they would take 3 duvets. Anyone here ever tried them?

NoWordForFluffy · 18/05/2018 20:37

Where do you live, Celtic? I've never seen outdoor washing machines at a petrol station. Sounds slightly insane!

NoWordForFluffy · 18/05/2018 20:40

I've just googled it. There's one relatively near to us. I'm not sure I fancy it though (but 18kg of washing at once is phenomenal!).

Kangaroo1 · 18/05/2018 20:45

For me it's because I want to ensure household stuff is split 50/50 but I want to be sure my wool/vaguely delicate clothes aren't burnt to pieces by the tumble drier. My DH is an entirely trustworthy grown up, but I like to choose how my clothes are washed

pitterpatterrain · 21/05/2018 20:59

Tatty 100%

We have 3 baskets - DH, DC and mine. DH loves to shove as much of his stuff in together as is possible, I usually have handwash stuff lurking around and the DC both of us chuck in - it’s usually a case of do one wash of your own, one of the DC

Then when it is drying there is no sorting between people either. Pile it up and put back -
