Is this rude behaviour from a colleague?

We work in an open plan office and I’d say once a week a woman (works in same floor) bakes something.

She brings it over to our department but will only offer what she’s baked to certain people.

OP posts:
BettyBaggins · 11/05/2018 21:35

You ever baked for her?

ItWentDownMyHeartHole · 11/05/2018 21:36

Yes. Rude.

ManicStreetTeacher · 11/05/2018 21:37

Hash brownies? I'd be raging.

OhNoes · 11/05/2018 21:39

Why don't you bake something then, if you're feeling left out?

wellBeehivedWoman · 11/05/2018 21:41

I think that's fair. If she's not in your department and there isn't enough for everyone she's probably only offering it to the people she's closest to.

You should bring in baking yourself and your team will love you Smile

AtrociousCircumstance · 11/05/2018 21:41

Rude.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 11/05/2018 21:42

Ooh yes! You should out bake her. An office bake off Grin

What will you be baking, and when? Just so I know Grin

AtrociousCircumstance · 11/05/2018 21:42

People bake where I work, but leave it in the kitchen and email everyone to help themselves.

Hushnownobodycares · 11/05/2018 21:46

God alone knows what's in it.

Count yourself lucky.

KarmaStar · 11/05/2018 23:02

Why is it rude?she's made a cake from ingredients she paid for, she's giving slices to close friends or colleagues.what do you want her to do,dish it out secretly in the loo?😅

TheDairyQueen · 11/05/2018 23:06

Trip her up as she walks by your desk! Good luck baking whilst using a walking stick.

Singlenotsingle · 11/05/2018 23:14

How many people are there in your department? She could soon be bankrupt if she dished out the goodies out to everyone! (Different if it's a tin of Roses!)

Failingat40 · 11/05/2018 23:19

Yes it's rude, some people are clueless about social graces and standards of behaviour expected in the workplace.

Instead of parading around the office with her cakes she should just discreetly message the 'chosen ones' to let them know to come and help themselves on their break.

On a lighter note, I would never eat anything home baked by a colleague.

LilMadAgain · 11/05/2018 23:22

fallingat ooh really? How come?

AjasLipstick · 11/05/2018 23:25

Me either Falling

Lil people are gross with lax habits....

ShadyLady53 · 11/05/2018 23:27

Yes, I’d find it rude. I knew someone who used to do this with bags of sweets. She’d drop them off with a wink and make a point of letting you (and others) know that meant you were part of her clique. She did it so she could deliberately exclude people. I was never excluded but I also never really trusted her. She made everything political and was very bitchy and gossipy about people. The sweets were a power thing. It could be the same with this woman or she could just be ignorant.

PenelopeFlintstone · 11/05/2018 23:48

Yes, rude.

countingdowntobedtimeagain · 11/05/2018 23:58

OP I think we could be working together .. I also have a colleague who does this. She will go and offer one by one to people and leave out the odd two or three people. Nothing to do with not having enough as previously stated, just that I think it makes her feel important. She’s always offered me so I must be in her little clique (well in her head anyway) but I think I’d rather starve Hmm

TemptressofWaikiki · 11/05/2018 23:58

I don't see it as being rude at all if she is friends with a few colleagues and gives them a piece. You sound entitled.

dangerrabbit · 12/05/2018 00:00

Are you my colleague, OP?

My colleagues also like playing these silly games.

Stripybeachbag · 12/05/2018 00:10

Rude. It is like party invitations, either include everyone or do it on the QT.

FissionChips · 12/05/2018 00:18

Think of it as a blessing, you have no idea of her hygiene habits.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 12/05/2018 00:26

Why would you never eat anything a colleague has baked?

hampsteadholly · 12/05/2018 00:29

I'd be relieved as I'd never eat anything baked by a colleague either.

Twogoround · 12/05/2018 00:30

Watch all your colleagues get fat eating cake s... while you stay slim
