Supermarket divider, is this a thing now?

I was in the supermarket yesterday, put my shopping on the belt, by the time I'd finished loading it the cashier had started scanning. Got to the end and there was a loaf of bread, he asked if it was mine, I said no. The woman behind me said "she didn't put the divider up so I left it" and then as I left, i heard her say "I refused to do it on principle as she (me) hadn't done it for her." Is that really a thing? She wasn't in the queue when I unloaded.

Perhaps it was flatbread?

EmpressOfSpartacus · 12/05/2018 20:48

Sounded to me like the bread was all she was getting though? Or the OP would have mentioned the other stuff too.

I put the divider the wrong way round today and chuckled to myself. The lady behind looked a bit confused and then put it straight 😀

CPtart · 12/05/2018 20:52

This is why I love scan and shop. Can be in and out without having to communicate with a soul.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 12/05/2018 21:06

flatbread 😂😂😂😂😂😂

VerbenaBorensis · 12/05/2018 21:41

Thanks devastated I have just read throu most of the 2014 thread-really made me chuckle!

gamerchick · 12/05/2018 21:50

Don't get me started on people who start putting their shopping on before you've finished! Where the fuck am I supposed to put my other 967 things now

You line the handle of your trolley with the end of the till so nobody can get near the belt until you let them.

I do the divider thing as well. I’m half expecting the husband to whack me with a divider one day it annoys him that much. Grin

kattekitt · 12/05/2018 22:46

I agree, it’ll certainly be flatbread Grin brilliant line @SoupDragon

I never hardly ever put a divider after my food bc i only shop once every 2 or 3 wks. I have so much that I'm bagging, paying and loading all at the same time.

However, I have never ever thought twice about putting a divider btwn my food and the person in front of me. ???

Why is it their responsibility, what if nobody followed them? Or would be food corralled for no reason.
That's a very petty principle. I've never heard of anything that small. It's like withholding "God bless you" for a sneeze.

Would anyone notice without a nasty remark?

I would have laughed at her or told her that her life is wasted with her idiocy....depending on the day.

Atthebottomofthesea · 12/05/2018 23:29

My conversations usually go:

"Mummy, shall I put a thing on first?"

"Yes, the woman in front doesn't really want to pay for ours as well"

Maybe they think i am being pa, I'm not just a bit of a family thing.

But the disappearing credit card story may have solved the Russia 2018 sticker pack mystery. I'm sure I picked a pack up, but I do not have them and it is not on the bill. I was too nice though, man behind just had a bottle of wine so I let him go, then he faffed with his card, then he wanted cashback, then he wanted it in coins though, think in all this the stickers got missed.

Haha award for the most fucking lame act of passive aggression in a supermarket goes to her.

Hadsuchahardday · 13/05/2018 20:14

My weekly shop covers the entire length of the belt so I can’t fit the divider on. Once I’ve unloaded the trolley I dash to the front to start packing. If I had less items I’d only put it down if someone was behind me or arrived whilst I was waiting.

Mandatorymongoose · 13/05/2018 20:19

Grin I'm glad other people still do vertical dividers too! DH hates it when I do that and mutters about Mumsnet under his breath.
