How to dress a fat body for holiday?!

Pinkbutton85 · 10/05/2018 19:54

So now we’ve decided on the holiday (earlier thread reference).. I now need to know how on earth do I dress my chubb for exceptionally hot weather?! I have 2-3 weeks max to kit myself out.

I’d describe my shape as ‘dumpy’ Grin

I’m a size 18-20 and 5’3. I carry most of my weight across my middle/hips. I’m 24, so want something to suit my age. No need for any ‘out’ outfits, most ‘out’ I’ll go is a family meal to a posh restaurant

Style and beauty board
Go there they are fab

WeWere0nABreak · 10/05/2018 20:08

Have a look at simply be or j d Williams, they have loads of stuff.

Loose shorts, floaty skirt/trousers and a nice top for dinner; possibly a maxi dress; handful of t shirts; swimming costume or tankini and cover-up; pair of Spanx if you're prone to chub-rub - done :)

cookiesaurus · 10/05/2018 20:09

Boohoo have some great maxi dresses - I've attached my favourite!

I find the sizes come up a little on the big issue so try a 16-18. The petite sizes are great too and mean that maxi dresses don't drag for miles on the floor!!

Do not call yourself ‘fat’! And dress yourself however the hell you want.

For the pool/beach: bikini (high wasted or standard), tankini or swimming costume (you can get some body sculpting ones if that’s what you’re after, try M&S, Tesco and Next). You may also want a cover-up, either a play suit or if you want to cover up more, maxi dress or jumpsuit.

Then evening outfits: cotton jumpsuits and play suits are great, depending on whether you want your legs out. Or just maxi or midi dresses.

Enjoy your holiday OP. Wear what you want and have fun!!

TheHulksPurplePanties · 10/05/2018 20:11

Put on clothes. Go out. Fuck everyone else.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 10/05/2018 20:11

I like the tops that have a cut out bit on the arms. They feel like a sleeveless top but give enough coverage if you're worried about showing your arms.

MynameisJune · 10/05/2018 20:12

I was just coming on to say what TheHulks said.

GlitteryFluff · 10/05/2018 20:13

Watching as I'm in the same position, only in 28. I actually need summer clothes as well as holiday clothes. Have hardly anything to wear on hot days as I just want to cover everything up!

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 10/05/2018 20:15

You wear whatever you feel confident in wearing. I feel very anxious about my body but I’ve found some lovely flowy dresses from Zara. I also recommend looking at patterned light material trousers with plain tops. Nice look, not too tight but don’t hide away the curves.

TireSwing · 10/05/2018 20:16

Yes. Style and Beauty boards!

I would say a uniform of flattering cotton trousers (well fitting and not too long as I think having your ankles out in the heat makes a huge difference in how you look and feel) and layered long length camis and loose fitting, floaty cotton t shirts.

Midi dresses (I have found some nice Takes on the shirt dress on ASOS but with more flattering V-neck necklines and more structured sleeves which make shoulders and bust look smaller, and waist ties)

mintich · 10/05/2018 20:16

I think she's a lot bigger than you are, but look at what Gemma Collins wears. I know she's annoying but she generally dresses her body well

Cobrider · 10/05/2018 20:19

M&S come up with shift dresses that I think can be more flattering than maxi dresses if you aren’t super tall. Gap too and H&M.
I am in the screw what other people think camp though, I hope you have a lovely holiday.

Merryoldgoat · 10/05/2018 20:20

I’m the same ish size as you but a bit taller.

Wide legged linen mix trousers and floaty tops are the way to go. White trousers and bright tops are summery but flattering.

Have you tried Yours Clothing? They’ve got some nice non-frumpy bits.

Dieu · 10/05/2018 20:20

Your best friends will be maxi dresses and kaftans/beach cover-ups.

Always best to get a jersey material maxi dress is a size or two smaller (weirdly!), as I find the more material they have (i.e. the bigger the size), the more tent like they can be.

I got a couple from Primark for £8 each, and they're fab. Skim over my tummy and make my boobs look great.

I am a non-skinny (to say the least Grin) but also have THE worst, most chunky legs. It can be tricky to cover these at the pool, I find!

QuietNinjaTardis · 10/05/2018 20:21

What TheHulks said. Put clothes on. Have fun.

Dieu · 10/05/2018 20:22

Also I find getting my nails, lashes and hair done helps. And although I don't go for them personally, maybe a fake tan? ... as tanned fat looks better than white Wink

Ummmmgogo · 10/05/2018 20:24

I would focus on avoiding weird tan lines, so short shorts and vest tops. cit out sleeves look great but leave odd looking tan lines x

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 10/05/2018 20:27

Fake tan will definitely help, as will makeup, hair done and nails done.

I am a bit taller than you but I like the cotton t shirt dresses in h and m. They have an elasticated waist to give you a bit of shape. Nice flip flops, big beach bag, big sunglasses and have a great holiday!

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 10/05/2018 20:30

Omg, please don't copy Gemma Collins OP.

Wuss2018 · 10/05/2018 20:36

Don't go for maxi dresses they don't suit a larger figure.

callmeadoctor · 10/05/2018 20:39

Cold shoulder tops, great for keeping cool and still covering up arms!!!

BrynsPicasso · 10/05/2018 20:41

Put clothes on it and enjoy your holiday ☀️ 🍹

movinonup · 10/05/2018 20:43

Go on to pinterest and search plus size summer outfits, Plenty of inspiration there OP.

manicinsomniac · 10/05/2018 20:44

I'm not very stylish so I doubt I can help (except that I've been told I'm too short for maxi dresses at 5' 1" - I think they probably look better on tall people?).

Just wanted to say I sympathise though and hope you get lots of constructive advice. It's very kind to say 'just wear what you want' but OP wouldn't be posting if she was happy to do that - she wants to know what will flatter her and make her feel good and confident as well as look good. I have the opposite problem in that I'm very underweight but I totally get the holiday panic of 'oh god everything looks shit on me and I just want some nice photos!'

LucheroTena · 10/05/2018 20:45

Maxi dresses are not generally a good look if voluminous material, jersey probably ok. Plus you are little so they may swamp. Don’t want the ship in full sail look.

I always think keep it simple, get your good bits out and keep the rest covered. Vest with loose lightweight shirt over, shorts to suit your legs, block muted colours or small prints. Get a couple of good costumes with support and wear one of those loose cover ups.

If you pop a headless pic on style and beauty they will kit you out.
