How to dress a fat body for holiday?!

Pinkbutton85 · 10/05/2018 19:54

So now we’ve decided on the holiday (earlier thread reference).. I now need to know how on earth do I dress my chubb for exceptionally hot weather?! I have 2-3 weeks max to kit myself out.

I’d describe my shape as ‘dumpy’ Grin

I’m a size 18-20 and 5’3. I carry most of my weight across my middle/hips. I’m 24, so want something to suit my age. No need for any ‘out’ outfits, most ‘out’ I’ll go is a family meal to a posh restaurant

Don't go for maxi dresses they don't suit a larger figure.

It really depends on the maxi dress. One with swathes of fabric will look more tent-like than good, but a more streamlined one can be amazingly flattering.

itsallgravybaby · 10/05/2018 20:52

As a fellow fat person I suggest maxi dresses with little short cardigans and a pair of short leggings underneath to stop chub rub

Or some nice longer length shorts that stop just above or at the knee with a longer length top - I like tassels with shorts as it's quite distracting

For swimwear, high waisted is your friend and primark/Asda and the like have some really cute little cover ups quite cheap.

Most importantly enjoy your holiday! ☀️

No loose trousers either I’m afraid. They are not the friend of the short and chubby.
Knee length or short wrap dresses. They’ll be longer on your height. Light ones with pretty patterns in nice Colours.

And the most expensive black swimsuit you can afford. Glam it up with a bright coloured cover up and nice pool shoes.

It's worth a browse of the Next Clearance on their website..I'm in the same position and have picked up a few nice bits for not too much money.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 10/05/2018 21:02

Is there a link to this style and beauty board? Get some new outfits that are colourful and comfortable, and some pretty shoes (including some you can walk in) Some sarongs... and remember positive body language and posture. Walk tall as if you look 1 million dollars (even if you don't feel it) and you will automatically take the emphasis away from the extra weight. Empire lines are brilliant. Some good fitting white linen trousers with a pretty tunic/kaftan top will also look fab on you. Best of luck.

GlomOfNit · 10/05/2018 22:05

I'd be shot down in flames on S&B (which is why I never go there) but I'm a convert to those floppy, often asymetrical linen dresses and tunics. I bought three over the last two summers from ebay (much cheaper than in shops) and when we go abroad for hot holidays, I pretty much live in them. I'm not saying they make me look chic or anything other than what I am, which is a shortarse size 14 in middle-aged clothes! Grin (I'm in my 40's) But god they are comfortable, and frankly when it's hot, sod looking fashionable. Bring me the wafty linen!

KinkyAfro · 10/05/2018 22:12

I liked Yours, I've had a few bits for holidays over the years from there. Zulily also has some nice plus size stuff

HoldingTheLineWinston · 11/05/2018 08:46

GlomOfNit - I bought one of those last time we were in Croatia..have to say, whatever the stylish ones think, you do feel fabulous in them!

MarthasGinYard · 11/05/2018 08:49

By day poolside Waft around in gorgeous kaftans some beauties out there at the moment

Oh, and linen trousers cool and stylish.

Happy hols

MarthasGinYard · 11/05/2018 08:52

Just noticed your height

Get those espadrilles wedges fired up for under your linen trousers

I'm not that tall either. Find it spreads me out in length Grin

springmachine · 11/05/2018 08:59

@GlomOfNit what are these dresses you speak of?

VoluptuaSneezelips · 11/05/2018 09:11

Im an inch shorter than you but sounds like we are similar size/shape. I've found dresses that are fitted at the waist then flare out like this one from 'Yours' work well with my figure. I would prob take a trip to a plus size shop like yours and try different clothes on, find out what you feel comfy in and what you like the look of. Also speak to the staff and see what they think as i've found they are absolutely brilliant with advice.

I bought these little leggings for my holidays last year and wore them under everything to avoid chub rub, normally I have 3/4 leggings but these are a bit more subtle.

I found they came up small and I had to size up 2 sizes so the lace bit didnt cut across my thigh but they're literally the best £14 I've ever spent.

Short Leggings ASOS

GlomOfNit · 11/05/2018 09:18

Well, this is an example:

I do love them. You can get shorter tunics in similar 'lagenlook' style and wear them with leggings or linen trousers.

MikeUniformMike · 11/05/2018 09:18

Go for midi not maxi.

HoldingTheLineWinston · 11/05/2018 09:43

Those are lovely GlomOfNit - look just like mine, except mine has short sleeves. I'd forgotten I even had it, so it's a nice reminder!

mintich · 11/05/2018 09:45

@ladyrochford @pinkbutton ha! I just meant the shape of her clothes....obviously not the patterns!!!

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 11/05/2018 14:28

I wasn't thinking of the patterns Mintish, I was thinking of this 🙈.

Mintich I mean :)

Mooey89 · 11/05/2018 14:31

Come onto fuller figure fuller wardrobe on Facebook - loads of great ideas!
Look at boohoo curve (generally come up small)
ASOS
Yours clothing.

ThistleAmore · 11/05/2018 15:07

I have a chum who, in her own words, is 'small but mighty' (about 5'1", but wears an 18-20), and she has the most amazing style - very retro 50s cover-girl sort of a look, so lots of red lipstick, hairbows, 'vintage' shapes (swimsuits with frills at the waist, rockabilly skirts etc) - and she looks AWESOME.

I am more 'conventionally' sized, I suppose you'd say, at 5'8" and a 12, but I couldn't even hope to rock the looks that she pulls off, due to her immense body confidence and self-esteem.

One of her best tips is 'wear clothes that fit and that make you feel comfortable - nobody will ever see the label on your knickers, so don't try to squeeze yourself into a smaller size'.

Enjoy your holiday. :D

Honeybooboo123 · 11/05/2018 15:19

Asos!!!! Curve section.

CheeseAndBeans · 11/05/2018 15:39

I am a size 22 and have just had to go and buy a load of clothes for holiday too in a few weeks.
I went to yours clothing. Got come lovely swing vest tops that look good with three quarter length cotton trousers or leggings. A couple of pairs of harem trousers that are so light and look great with a vest top too. Also got a couple of nice dresses that come in at the waist and are really flattering. Asda some nice bits in too at the moment, I got a couple of nice dresses and light cardigans.

Sparklesocks · 11/05/2018 16:39

ASOS Curve is good and simply be has some Mumsy stuff but good stuff in there too, I also recommend looking up plus size fashion bloggers like Callie Thorpe, Bethany Rutter, Dani Vanier, Lottie L’amour for inspo - they are larger ladies who dress well.
