To think Neil Young is rubbish?

Just that really. I hate his nasal whining, he's not even attractive, and I just don't get all the fuss.

EastMidsMummy it's only because my DH has recently taken all his vinyl out of storage. We've had a nightly diet of NY's reedy warbling after dinner for the past 6 nights. I'm losing the will to live, frankly. Thank God for Apple Music and headphones 🎧

Hey Nonny No made me smile 🙂

FlyMaybe · 09/05/2018 23:17

I do love Neil Diamond though. Love On The Rocks - genius

I actually like Crosby, Stills and Nash, great harmonising. I would definitely see them in concert again.

Maybe I should send my husband round to your house, so at least one of us doesn't have to suffer the nasal ear bashing 😬

PickAChew · 09/05/2018 23:29

This won't go well OP.

I've not had my fix for a while since DH put all my CSNY CDs in storage along with almost my entire king crimson collection, before we moved. Bereft doesn't cover it. I'm tempted to take him to the storage unit and lock him in until he unearths them.

FlyMaybe · 09/05/2018 23:31

I quite like CSN. Just not CSNY.

I had an ex who loved Neil Young (I'm assuming he's not your DH OP). I like a couple of albums but I've never seen him live.

He's a polio survivor isn't he?

FatBallsAndSunflowerSeeds · 10/05/2018 09:27

I quite like Paul Young but I've never seen CSI:NY.

I'm eternally grateful to my dad for scratching all my mum's Neil Diamond LPs trying to play them while shitfaced drunk. Hate Neil Diamond with such a passion.

YANBU

I'd put him right up there with Bob Dylan in the vastly overrated artists category.

tradervictoria · 10/05/2018 10:20

NY is a prodigious talent and a force of nature. He doesn't so much sing as use his voice where appropriate. I particularly like the track 'Cortez the Killer' for its musicality as much as it's social comment.

CSN (=sometimes Y) were more that the sum of their parts. Stephen Stills seemed the catalyst to me. All the musicians all have a fascinating history, worth looking into.

Have a listen to 'Southern Cross' and tell me it's not a masterpiece...

ilovesooty · 10/05/2018 10:26

I've been a massive fan for many years and went to see him on his last tour. You don't like him? Your prerogative, but yabu to say he's rubbish.

RedDwarves · 10/05/2018 10:30

Heart of Gold is one of my all time favourite songs, so YABU.

The80sweregreat · 10/05/2018 10:36

His just who he is - a lot of 70s singers were different.

WorraLiberty · 10/05/2018 10:39

I quite like some of his music

Why does he have to look attractive anyway?

tradervictoria · 10/05/2018 10:48

isthismummy this is very funny, how do you think Bob Dylan is over-rated? He has been composing and performing excellent, timeless works for 60 years or more. His canon is too large to pick just a few. His fan base is deservedly enormous, based on his personal skill, talent and musicality.

Granted, if you prefer the same track composed from a template performed indifferently in 200 different ways as much current 'commercial' music can often be, then BD is indeed vastly overrated Sad

FlyMaybe · 10/05/2018 10:56

Trader - but Southern Cross isn't a NY song.... I already said that I like some of the CSN stuff.

OP posts:
mellowW · 10/05/2018 10:58

He's written some amazing songs.

He clearly isn't rubbish although you may not like him. Do you understand the difference?

FlyMaybe · 10/05/2018 10:59

Re Bob Dylan - he's obviously not the best singer in the world, and I find his harmonica playing excruciating in the extreme. But his writing is brilliant. I just prefer to hear other artists' versions of his songs!

OP posts:
The80sweregreat · 10/05/2018 11:30

Bob Dylan would never have passed any audition on the x factor!

Adrian Chiles once described BD fans as ' quiet' - he divides opinion, but been doing his own thing for decades, good for him. ( not really a fan myself, but he is talented)

Gilead · 10/05/2018 11:32

Adore Neil Young!

You are being VVVVV unreasonable.

I dug out Harvest recently - its an amazing, beautiful album..
