Continuing the discussion on whether influencing on Instagram is an ethical business model, particularly around the disclosure of advertising and the over exposure of children.

AIBU to think it isn't a sustainable career unless the influencer is scrupulously ethical?

Sorry it wasn't one you were trying on. It's a green/white/blue abstract M&S ie that lots of people have posted about.

Reboot · 10/05/2018 18:08

Oh I don’t think we are talking about the same one after all 😂

MarshaBradyo · 10/05/2018 18:15

I was on a thread a few ago and am interested in the is it ok to build these accounts by showing children who can’t say yes ok

A couple of accounts make me laugh, I don’t follow SV but when I looked last the baby on the neck photo made me laugh, and so did a fashion IGer who I do follow - Leandra her twin plus captions are funny

I also feel more forgiving towards IGers who have built up a following from anything other than their dc, this includes fashion or sleb. And if they want to show their dc in the odd post so be it.

So I am mostly wondering if it’s ok to use children as a way to bring in money, pretty much the Hadley Freeman article

@FlyingBird naming no names but was that the one starring tv presenter/writer/clothes designer/wife of someone famous?

Flying Bird I agree it seems odd the same round of IG mates do the m&s clothes and often the same ones. Conversely, I often like things in m&s, just not the things the IGers are wearing. Does that mean I am independent thinking or just deeply unstylish? 🤔

Ha ha Flying Bird probably not 😆

MadameGrizzly · 10/05/2018 19:46

And the fact remains that there is actually a dress for sale out there that wouldn't look amiss on a 17th Century Puritan

I loved that dress! 😂

It would be the perfect fit for me as I'm pear shaped. I think Erica Davies could pull it off.

That abstract M&S dress doing the rounds is truly awful.

I love the change room disasters because I will never forget that one time not being able to get the dress back over my head in Kensignton High St Monsoon. The prickling sweat and dread while I tried to decide at what point I needed to call a sales assistant and/or damage the garment.

Just scrolling back to #divorcingtheshitoutoflife, most of the prominent instagrammers are mid 30s - I've found the divorces start mid 40s - so give them time! It's like when the first person in the office gets married or knocked up, soon everyone in the office is getting married or knocked up. It's not quite peer group pressure; maybe peer group permission?

I thought the peach/blush dress MOD and DLAM were sporting was Mormon looking.

I've done the same thing Grizzly with an off the peg wedding dress. The shop owner started to slightly shout at me not to move as I got it caught over my head. MP's changing room antics really made me LOL.

I wish them all every happiness with their insta marriages. I really do hope they all come out of insta fame unscathed, with a few extra bucks in their pockets but that this phase of advertising ends soon, because I think it's hateful. I want ads to be obvious in tv breaks and between editorial in magazines, full stop. I don't want them in product placement in movies, along the bottom of my browser or slid in SM on the sly. In fact I would pay Not to see them this way if there was an option.

MadameGrizzly · 10/05/2018 20:15

M&S what were you thinking??

Oh god, Surfing, a wedding dress trumps a Monsoon dress changing room disaster!

That dress would look good on a stylish gran who'd kept her figure?! This one tho. Wtf.

Mmm. I could definitely go the white Amish, but I wouldn't have touched the peach dress even back in the 80s, when peach was very popular.

The lilac slip on shoes don't even fit properly. Hideous.

OP posts:
Reboot · 10/05/2018 20:42

This would go well with the lilac shoes though, no?
