To hate people calling older people cute?

I really hate people calling pensioners cute. I think it's disrespectful.

I was reading something about the Queen today and the top comment was "As, isn't she cute!"

The American women I used to know from an international baby group ten years ago used cute for everybloodything! Tbh it was a bit irritating, especially when coupled with "super" (that super-cute guy in the super-cute car has a super-cute wife who has a siper-cute purse! ... Erm). Anything could be cute - clothes, cars, men, hairstyles, ideas... It was very much like people who over use the word "nice" in British English.

This is a huge pet peeve of mine. I know a few people (mostly younger women) who endless refer to older people as "cute" and "adorable". I find it infuriatingly rude and stupid. Older people are just people! Some of them are nice, some of them are arse holes, just like all other people of all other ages. It really aggravates me.

It is quite patronising. I particularly hate the phrase 'BLESS HIM/HER!' or when people say 'I'm so proud of...' when they don't even know them!

Just my weird hang ups....Grin

Iamagreyhound when I was growing up "cute" meant handsome or attractive, and seemed to be used more for men than for women.

A paramedic did this to my dad the other week. She was there to treat my mum.

I hated it. So demeaning and patronising.

It's all part of the deification /patronising shit spoken about older people... Just because they're old,!

Amongst that group there will be as much range of people as there are in any other group....

The interesting /difficult /exciting / generous /mean /curious /rigid....

Reducing them to be 'ah bless' or 'aren't they sweet'...... Hideously patronising

I've never heard cute used to refer to an elderly person...very odd.

The Queen certainly isn't cute!

Cute guys I've heard a lot...clear skin and dimples = cute.
