AIBU to think that the cordless Dysons are great but the battery life is rubbish?

Can anyone persuade me that the Dyson's cordless hoovers are great as the main hoover in the house and don't drive you mad by running out of battery all the time?

Mines never run out of battery, but I've only got a two bed. (v8 animal)

Flisspaps · 09/05/2018 17:48

The battery lasts about 20 minutes, my house (fairly big old thing) can be done in 2 goes.

It's never been vacuumed as much as it has been the last 4 months!

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 09/05/2018 17:49

My mum and both of my sister's have them. They last about 20 minutes. They're so easy to just whip out that they never have a problem with them dying becasue it never takes that long to do the hoovering.

I believe the newest model holds charge for 1 hour.

I'm convinced a cordless Dyson will solve all my problems and it's the top of my list when we move into our new house.

Dodie66 · 09/05/2018 17:51

I love mine. It lasts enough for me to do my while 3 bed house in one go and I’ve sometimes used it another day too before charging. It’s brilliant.

Smeddum · 09/05/2018 17:52

I’ve got both. Cordless V7 which is great for every day and a corded animal which is great for a deep clean.

jalopy · 09/05/2018 17:53

I don't like my Dyson as the roller requires constant cleaning of hairs wrapped around it and I don't even own a dog.

Luckily I have an old Miele and it's fantastic.

abbey44 · 09/05/2018 18:02

I got one to replace my Miele Cat & Dog when it died, as I thought it would be the answer to my prayers. It wasn't, as (like jalopy's) the roller needs unclogging the whole time and the battery life isn't great. But, to be fair, it's fantastic to do a quick once-over or to do the stairs. I did end up getting another Miele though, for the heavy vacuuming. (Am over-invested in vacuums now.)

SluttyButty · 09/05/2018 18:07

My Dyson animal is a marvellous thing. I never vacuum up and down in one fell swoop because I'm a lazy wotsit so mine never runs out of battery. My big Dyson rarely gets used that often. Even my husband loves it because you can just whip it out with no pulling out cords. He did moan about the cost but he soon ate his words Grin

Perfecto · 09/05/2018 18:09

I find it’s good for crumbs and bits but the hair gets clogged up and I don’t have any pets either. Not enough charge for my 2 bed house so a bit rubbish.

runningtogetskinny · 09/05/2018 18:15

Just bought the animal V10, I love it! I've wall mounted it on the charger so never ran out yet, and because it's so quick and easy I use it at least once a day (golden retriever moult!) takes no time to do the whole house if used daily so far no battery issues

Prometheus · 09/05/2018 18:21

The charge lasts 15 minutes maximum for me (v7) but still useful to have in the kitchen so can quickly hoover up crumbs.

Katinkka · 09/05/2018 18:27

Yeah it can be a nuisance. Especially as I only use the max suction on my rugs. Wouldn’t be without it though. The cleaners use a Henry and it’s useless compared to the Dyson. I like to do my rugs after they’ve gone to see what I can get off them.

bigknickersbigknockers · 09/05/2018 18:30

I have one and wont ever buy a cordless vacuum again. They are ok for hard floors but have little impact on carpets. Don't waste your money.

DustyMaiden · 09/05/2018 18:31

Hoover until it runs out then coffee and MN whilst it recharges.

PuppyMonkey · 09/05/2018 18:35

Only 20 minutes? Confused that’s on the higher setting though surely - ours (V6) works just as well on the lower setting. It takes about 30 mins to do my whole house.

(I quite enjoy unclogging the hair off the roller / better than therapy Blush).

SloanePeterson · 09/05/2018 18:36

I love ours. It’s so easy to just grab and use that I now whizz around with it several times a day whereas before I’d dread lugging out Henry and put off doing it for several days at a time. The little and often approach has meant I’ve never run out of charge

DryHeave · 09/05/2018 18:36

I never want To vacuum for more than 20 minutes anyway. That said, the battery failed and they had to send me a new one under warranty.

Angrybird345 · 09/05/2018 18:41

As it gets older the battery doesn’t hold its charge very well either.... literally just after 2 years it stated dying very quickly. Really annoying.

SoozC · 09/05/2018 18:57

We love ours. No idea how long it lasts as we tend to hoover a little bit most days to cover the whole house every week, really love how easy it is!

The80sweregreat · 09/05/2018 19:01

Ours seems to run out really quickly. Dh bought a reconditioned one so this could be why? It’s not that great . Prefer a plug in one

babydreamer1 · 09/05/2018 19:52

I have both a dyson and a vax cordless (we had one each when we moved in together) The vax was £80 in a Black Friday thing at currys and is better than the dyson in every way. The battery lasts for the entire 3 bed house and is still going (where as the dyson used to run out half way up the stairs), picks more up, clogs less, charges faster and has a larger and more easy to clean dust collector. Needless to say the dyson is never used.

suchatiredbunny · 09/05/2018 20:08

My husband uses the cordless without being asked.....as this never happened before we had one I don't mind how long the battery lasts! Grin

user1497787065 · 09/05/2018 20:26

I think mine is pretty useless too. 20 minutes normal and about 8 minutes on the supercharge option. I feel I wasted about £300 when I bought it. But to be fair I feel the same about my steam mop.

Betsy86 · 09/05/2018 20:32

Mine lasts about 20 minutes and the hair etc does get wrapped round it easily.... but wow it does pick up alot and is so handy for a quick tidy up. I still want a new henry though i miss mine even though it was annoying to pull around but inlike having a big hoover for a deep clean for some reason x

LadyLannister · 10/05/2018 06:32

I hate mine, the battery doesn’t even last long enough to hoover the car properly and it takes 3 hours to get a full charge. I used mine for about a week and then gave up on it and bought a Miele which was cheaper and which I absolutely love. My dyson was the biggest waste of £300 I’ve ever spent.
