Throwing their door mat at their door.

So my stepdad bought me a really nice doormat. I didn't think you could call a doormat nice, but nevertheless, it's a decent one. I'm getting fed up of people rubbing mud on my beige carpet so the doormat solved this problem.

Anyway, got home today and my doormat was still in place.. Went to go to the shop about an hour after and our matts had been swapped. Their bird shit covered mat was neatly placed in front of my door and our nice new one was neatly in front of theirs.
So I swapped then back.

Got back from the shop 20 mins later. Doormats swapped again! Absolute cheek!

So I threw their doormat at their front door and took ours in.
Im sick of it. I took my bins out yesterday and we have to go through a gully as they're terraced houses and all their black bags full of god knows what that are attracting rats were right in front of my gate. I couldn't get the bins out and dp had to move them. I still had room in my bin so I put a few bags in for them.

I can't even have a doormat by the looks of it 🙄

That's terrible and so ridiculously petty!

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 08/05/2018 18:32

I’m assuming “they” are a neighbour? Superglue yours down...

Twounder1 · 08/05/2018 18:37

Yeah next door neighbours. Would superglue even work with wind/rain etc? I did think about it. But if it came to replacing it it would be a nightmare to get off I'm presuming?

Can you neatly write “welcome to no 23” (or whatever) on it in marker?

thatsjustmyface · 08/05/2018 18:55

You could get some number stencils and spray paint your house number on it?

Florene · 08/05/2018 19:05

What would happen if you knocked on their door and asked them what they fuck they are doing?

I'm assuming there's a reason you haven't done this?

Wanderwall · 08/05/2018 19:08

Good idea to spray paint your number on it 👍

Puffycat · 08/05/2018 19:12

They sound lovely 😳
I would be concerned that it’s not going to end with your door mat or the rubbish.
It’s really shit when you’ve got neighbors like that, I’m afraid it’s only going to get worse.
Sorry not very helpful

AlanRickmansRightFoot · 08/05/2018 19:15

Some people really are just dicks, aren't they.

I don't think YAB.

BalaBrith · 08/05/2018 19:16

That's ridiculously petty of them.
Is there a reason you haven't knocked to ask them wtf they are playing at?

Twounder1 · 08/05/2018 19:16

Dp was waiting looking outside the glass of our door for them to swap them again but they didn't. He could've been waiting there all day. I don't want conflict I just want to live in peace but if it gets worse, I'm reporting them to the council 👍

OP posts:
Twounder1 · 08/05/2018 19:19

Mainly because I don't want the conflict right now. I can't be bothered with it. (depression and anxiety etc) I don't want any trouble with two young kids either and I feel I'd get it with them.
I've been nothing but nice to them too.

What kind of people will this kind of things Shock

Candyflosss · 08/05/2018 19:20

I mean your neigbour!

15star · 08/05/2018 19:21

I don't think it's a good idea to knock and ask them, if they are brazen enough to keep swapping the mats they are hardly going to go "oh Im sorry won't do that again" it's just gonna make things worse. By all means say something if you catch them. Just paint your number on your mat with nail varnish or Sharpie. I have crazy neighbours, I feel your pain but you can't really argue with people like that as they will think what they are doing is acceptable and you have to live with them

Twounder1 · 08/05/2018 19:23

No clue why. They have more money than us too.. Why don't they just buy one themselves 🤦‍♀️
I may put it back out tomorrow and If it happens I'm going over. Only problem is if they take it into their home and I never see it again or its in their back garden and I can't take it back

SandAndSea · 08/05/2018 19:30

In my experience, this is the sort of thing someone does when they're trying to pick a fight.

15star · 08/05/2018 19:30

Can you put it just inside your door instead? I have a rubber one from the pound shop outside and my nice one inside the front door

Theimpossiblegirl · 08/05/2018 19:30

What surface does the mat sit on? If concrete I'd be tempted to drill some long screws into it to secure it to the ground.
Spray paint may be easier.:)

I would pop a note in about the rats and if they don't sort their bins, report them.

Penfold007 · 08/05/2018 19:33

if it's a really nice doormat consider bringing indoors. Just put it on the inside of the threshold, will still protect your carpet.

Donthate · 08/05/2018 19:35

Just keep it inside. Not worth the hassle

AprilLady4 · 08/05/2018 19:36

What 15star said.

Twounder1 · 08/05/2018 19:43

Can I ask your ladies advice quickly? Neighbours have a huge bouncy castle blown up now. The type at fun fairs. Huge generator etc. Music is so loud too. My kids just aren't sleeping. Any advice?

ALongHardWinter · 08/05/2018 19:44

Is there anything some people won't nick? Shock

Twounder1 · 08/05/2018 19:45

Stepdad did buy me one for inside but I suppose my back garden it'll be okay
