To think pensioners paying NI is a step towards equality

Apparently it would raise 2 billion a year and help cover social care.

Mail comments are furious people, but isn't it a step towards a more equal society and taxing everyone more similar regardless of age?

Ni just seems like such an outdated system and in an ideal world it would all be rolled into one tax with income.

That Mrsramsay is sadly all too true!

Perhaps Op you would prefer it if anyone past the age of 70 were compulsorily euthanised - oh no that's no good, you wouldn't then be able to get your greedy entitled paws on their pensions - you know the pensions that were paid for from salaries that have already had NI & income tax deducted. If you are going to take this approach then maybe people who work fulltime all their lives and who don't have children should pay less NI & tax to reflect their reduced demands on State services like NHS, schooling etc. not say the reduced impact on the highly undesirable increase in world population. If I am still living by 75 Op then I would like to apologise now for my existence, I'll give you a call & you can come round and put me down. The amount of pensioner/older people bashing thread on Mumsnet really depresses me and makes me feel that when I am in that category I will be totally despised by anyone under the age of 40.

Poor pensioners earning not much wouldn't pay it and people not working wouldn't at all. it's just taxing people the same.

Then again pensioners are untouchable, can't make any suggestions to tax everyone the same before someone says that's the same as euthanasia Envy

Suggesting reforms to an outdated tax system isn't bashing pensioners.

If it upsets readers of the paper that supported the Blackshirts then it must be almost by definition something worth considering. Even though changing the laws on corporate tax avoidance would be first in my book as a way of increasing government revenue.

Ah well! There you go! You never really did want an exchange of opinions, did you? You have made suggestions, people have expressed different opinions. They believe them as much as you believe yours!

What would have preferred? You pronounce and we all bend a knee?

jnfrrss · 12/05/2018 08:40

A sensible debate on taxation would have been good. Rather than suggesting someone doing the same job for the same pay is taxed at the same is paramount to euthanasia.

How about we cut projects like HS2 first given that everything is gearing more towards Wi-Fi and digital? And other redundant poor return projects?
