To run the tap while I brush my teeth

even though I live in Scotland where it rains a lot and I don't get charged for water anyway?

@whiskey at least flushing the toilet has a purpose. Leaving the tap running is wasting water with no purpose. It's not a waste if its being used.

agedknees · 06/05/2018 14:15

Get to a certain age and peeing whilst showering isn’t a choice!!!

peachgreen · 06/05/2018 15:33

YABU. You're not supposed to rinse anyway!

EleanorHooverbelt · 06/05/2018 15:48

What the heck? You are not supposed to rinse after brushing? When did that start? Shock

Im in scotland too. Im even worse, i dont like brushing with cold water so need to keep the hot tap on full to keep it warm. I dont feel the slightest bit guilty

megletthesecond · 06/05/2018 15:54

Yabu.

megletthesecond · 06/05/2018 15:55

If you rinse you rinse away the protective toothpaste residue.
I brush my tongue but never rinse.

picklemepopcorn · 06/05/2018 15:58

I have to rinse, so I have another little brush with an unwashed brush to reflouridate my teeth after.

There is no need to waste water- you can turn off the shower while you shampoo and condition and soap, and turn it on again to rinse.

CheeseyToast · 06/05/2018 16:01

Why would you even post this question? Of course it is ignorant and foolish to waste treated water.

Pinkprincess1978 · 06/05/2018 16:05

Waste is waste. My husband used to do this and justified it because his dad worked for the water board 😳 I've finally managed to stop this habit now but it took years!

PrizeOik · 06/05/2018 16:06

Having been brought up abroad under painful water restrictions, I get a stab of adrenalin just thinking of running the tap while brushing. We used to share 2 inches of bathwater ffs.

Water purification and distribution is so expensive and energy heavy, never mind water is a finite resource, albeit plentiful in the UK. Mindless consumption is such a sickening thing. I wish people would think.

Yabu.

FranticallyPeaceful · 06/05/2018 16:09

I genuinely thought everybody left the water running when brushing teeth... I’ve never even thought about it! I obviously feel sufficiently shamed about it now though Blush

Do people actually do this ? Iv never thought to turn the shower off half way through to soap up

apostropheuse · 06/05/2018 16:12

Of course you pay for water in Scotand - it's paid via your council tax bill.

picklemepopcorn · 06/05/2018 16:54

Totally, Oreo. It wouldn't occur to me not to, anymore. Shower on, get wet all over, shower off. Shampoo, soap, shower on to rinse. Done.

RoseWhiteTwat · 06/05/2018 16:59

Worse than Trump. You'll be reincarnated as a g-string.

counterpoint · 06/05/2018 17:08

I believe it's a good idea to run the tap (here in the UK) as it helps return clean water back to the rivers and reduces pollution. Sludge is recycled for farming.

In some areas, the water put back into the environment can improve water quality in rivers and streams, helping to keep them healthy.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 06/05/2018 17:09

YABU. The Goddess will cry.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 06/05/2018 17:11

YOU do NOT rinse after brushing your teeth, so why would you even leave the tap running during?

AgathaRaisinsCat · 06/05/2018 17:30

I clean mine while the shampoo and conditioner rinse off in the shower.

EleanorHooverbelt · 06/05/2018 17:34

True, but as it's not metered and always a flat rate, I guess I've never thought about it.

Me neither Shock It takes a while for my shower water to heat up when I turn it off, so I think more water and power would be wasted to get it going again?

Wow! I never knew this!

Isn't the point of brushing to dislodge food particles? I find debris comes out in the sink upon rinsing. I would like that stuff left in my mouth/teeth.

OP posts:
picklemepopcorn · 06/05/2018 17:37

That's why I rinse then brush again.

picklemepopcorn · 06/05/2018 17:38

The hot water will still be in your pipes. It won't have to heat from scratch.
