To think you wouldn’t openly slate someone’s home to them

I am a bit sensitive about my house we brought on a newbuild estate and parking has become an issue as well as neighbours noisy kids.
Therefore don’t think I made a great choice in hindsight, however it cost a lot of money and it’s our house for now.
In the last week I’ve had 4 separate people past negative invited comments such as ‘they’re so packed in’
Couldn’t live here no privacy’
‘Gardens small isn’t it’
I wouldn’t dream of being so rude about someone’s home- yet people including my friends are happy to slate mine.
Can’t believe people are so bloody rude.

There are 2 versions of help to buy one for new builds only but the other version is for new and old.

Your friends sound like my mother in law. She bought a big house in a nice end of town as her first purchase 40 years ago and can't understand why we would want to live in a flat. It hasn't crossed her mind that we have done the best we can afford and we will never have the big house in an affluent area, never mind have it as a first purchase.

It sounds like you are friends with a lot of rude cocks then!

The thing about new builds is that they're warm and draught-free, cheap to heat, easy to decorate, have windows that aren't falling out - and as a pp mentioned, have enough plug sockets. People are just shits if they criticise someone's house - or car Angry

Thanks got that 'Betty Boo'! Didn't realise the scheme applies to old builds too! Shows how much I know, lol!

Unicorndiscoball · 04/05/2018 21:12

Oh god we live in a new build and have had lots of this from different people. My personal ‘favourite’ was the wife of a good friend who sat on our sofa and looked around the room with her nose screwed up and said ‘it’s just like living in a box isn’t it? So soulless’.

So rude. When they got their first house we went round with flowers and wine and gushed about how lovely it was. I would never dream of being so rude.

I’m no expert either scent! I think it’s more a shared ownership type scheme for non new builds.

IronMansIronButt · 04/05/2018 21:45

garden is small is hardly slating your house, if in fact it is small!

bought, btw.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 04/05/2018 21:51

I’ve had people pass comment on my house and it’s unpleasant. If they are being factually correct (‘garden’s really small’ or ‘I’d hate to be overlooked like that’ ) - do they think the owner doesn’t know that? It’s unnecessary and unkind to comment negatively on people’s homes.Think twice people
