Than homemade hummus?

Seriously, i chuck the ingredients in my nutribullet and eat with carrot sticks or straight off the spoon.

It's absolutely delicious plus really healthy.

Care to share other super healthy moreish ideas?

Sounds easy enough Brighton - will give it a go.....

QueenOfMyWorld · 04/05/2018 13:08

Smoked salmon all day long, could eat it for every meal

alpacawhacker · 04/05/2018 13:09

According to Zoe Harcombe there is no food with a better nutritional profile than liver. I can't bear the vile stuff though, so won't be eating it any time soon. Blerk.

ppeatfruit · 04/05/2018 13:11

But you have to like the chickpeas whether they're homemade or not Jelly

I overheard someone saying that everyone has got more obese since the 'houmous dip' culture has overtaken our country!!

BrightonCalling · 04/05/2018 13:11

@SidekickSally
@gustofwind
I also add olive oil and use tinned chickpeas and a splash of the tinned water!

@ppeatfruit
Probably because people are slathering it on pitta bread or toast which is yummy but clearly very carby!

Babaganoush. Yum.

SerenDippitty · 04/05/2018 13:13

Chickpeas aren't that good for you in large quantities.

Then again is anything?

Angie169 · 04/05/2018 13:15

bambamber yogurt bark Grin I think It would be easier to make it moo ( ok ignore me I am been daft )

Clandestino · 04/05/2018 13:16

@ppeatfruit, try soft-baked butternut squash instead of chickpeas. It's lighter, lower calories, high D vitamin content and won't make you bloated. Bloody delicious too.

ScaredPAD · 04/05/2018 13:16

Hmm mmm yum. Love hummus. I haven't made it myself in ages ....

theycallmebabydriver · 04/05/2018 13:18

Babaganoush YES! Mountains you are correct

OP do you shell your chickpeas? I never bothered then a few years ago met a Lebanese man who is now a very good friend and he always shells his and it's so much better! I now have to sit there for hours moaning and shelling fucking chickpeas.

FurryDogMother · 04/05/2018 13:18

I could live on jalapenos halved, de-seeded, then stuffed with cream cheese, wrapped in mesquite smoked streaky bacon (Ocado/Waitrose), and baked for about 35 mins at Gas Mk 6.

Having said that, some of the current Waitrose jalapenos are a bit fierce! Best when using mild ones. Also, I could really use a personal chef to make these for me, if I'm going to live on them, 'cos they're a faff to put together.

Angie169 · 04/05/2018 13:20

feta salad , big beef tomatoes sliced thick , cucumber sliced thin big chunks of feta topped with very fine sliced red onion and olive oil .
no knife and fork just pick up each neat stack and GOBBLE

JellySlice · 04/05/2018 13:21

Not necessarily, ppeatfruit. I lurrrrve houmous (I'll even eat the bought stuff), but I'm not particularly keen on chickpeas as chickpeas. I'll not push them aside if there's a handful in a vegetable stew, for example, but I'd never choose to eat them.

MrsHathaway · 04/05/2018 13:23

OP do you shell your chickpeas? I never bothered then a few years ago met a Lebanese man who is now a very good friend and he always shells his and it's so much better! I now have to sit there for hours moaning and shelling fucking chickpeas.

Presumably that helps with the fartiness too - I now shell everything for myself with that tough shell, including broad beans, peas, etc.

KingHenrysCodpiece · 04/05/2018 13:28

Some garlic, leeks, potatoes and stinging nettle leaves/dandelion leaves freshly plucked from the garden, add as much water as you want. Bit of spring onion, some vegetable bouillon or stock cube, black pepper. A drop of cream, sea salt. Brief whizz with a hand held food processor, makes the best soup ever, and you get a special Star for using weeds!

TERFragetteCity · 04/05/2018 13:28

Chickpeas are not beans, they are related to peanuts so some people are very allergic to them

Actually you have that the wrong way round - peanuts are also legumes, just like chickpeas AND beans. Even licorice is a legume.

I have suffered from a severe loss of appetite for two years and I want to make everything on this thread. You´ve reminded me why people like food. Thanks OP!

Parques · 04/05/2018 13:40

In the minority here but can’t stand eggs or hummus. Marmite on toast however....... Grin

kateandme · 04/05/2018 13:43

seen as everything even lettuce is unhealthy in over done amounts.and being a woman of the word "balance is key" I will put down here that there is nothing great or more healthier therefore than my grannies millionaires shortbread.

kateandme · 04/05/2018 13:45

margaritasbythesea aww that's so good to hear.go forth and cook hun :)
forget all the other shit.food is meant to be enjoyed.

BrashCandicoot · 04/05/2018 13:51

I hear you OP! I got a nurtribullet a few weeks ago and I've been experimenting with my hummus making.

For someone who wanted a recipe:

  • Drained tin of chickpeas
  • Tablespoon (and a half depending on your taste) Tahini
  • Large garlic clove
  • tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 2-3 tbsp water to loosen

I've found that the garlic needs to be pre-chopped, and the other ingredients pre-whizzed before adding the chickpeas. I used peanut butter instead of tahini for one of my batches - it was nice but had a definite peanut taste.

Tips and hints much appreciated Grin

Strugglingtodomybest · 04/05/2018 13:51

I'll give you half a mark op, because I thought you were going to say carrots. But you got them in as a side order so you're halfway right!
