Well, that’s 3.50 each so not really.

peachypetite · 30/04/2018 18:48

Pretty standard in London.

specialsubject · 30/04/2018 18:49

nope. what were you expecting from a chain?

DuchyDuke · 30/04/2018 18:49

Pretty good. I was spending the same in Edinburgh

ohamIreally · 30/04/2018 18:50

Oh right I live and work in London but thought it seemed a lot - need to get out more obviously Smile

Nestle, innit. You want something with water in it, you’re gonna pay through the nose.

00100001 · 30/04/2018 18:54

It is expensive # especially for a small coffee

Nikephorus · 30/04/2018 18:55

I find £2/2.50 for tea even worse - you are paying for a tea bag and a splash of milk as the water is free.
I'll you'll find that water is only free if they get it from the river or a rain-butt. We all pay water rates, plus a business has business rates, rent, light & heat, wages, insurance.....
Even if you were at home you'd be paying more than just for the tea bag & milk!!!

soundsystem · 30/04/2018 18:56

Openup The water isn’t really free, though is it, as they have to pay rates and then they have to pay to heat the water. And that’s before you get into the cost of the the crockery/disposables, and paying the staff to make your tea...

Fatted · 30/04/2018 18:58

Yes Yanbu, but I live in NE Wales and don't go places like this anyway

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 30/04/2018 19:00

I totally agree with you, but yes that is about average.

BigPinkBall · 30/04/2018 19:00

I always take my reusable cup to Pret, you can’t beat 49p for a filter coffee Grin

TawnyPort · 30/04/2018 19:01

Nobody actually thinks that you are paying for just the tea bag, do they? you can't be that naive!

FASH84 · 30/04/2018 19:02

That's fairly standard

NewYearNewMe18 · 30/04/2018 19:03

\Presumably there was a price list and you chose what you wanted ?

viques · 30/04/2018 19:03

Open up 41 Water is free? so wtf am I paying water rates for!

and actually you are not just paying for a tea bag and a splash of milk. you are paying for the rent and rates on the property, heating , lighting and other energy costs, the staff costs, their wages, pension contributions, holiday pay, the cleaning costs of the cafe , the toilets, the table, the other furnishings, buying and washing up the cup and saucer and replacing broken and stolen ones, and all the myriad other costs a business has to deal with including a tiny bit for profit so the owner feels it worth while!

If you resent paying for all that then buy a thermos and sit shivering on a hard and uncomfortable bench with nowhere to have a wee and wash your hands!

(mind you if you really want to be ripped off go to the Victoria Palace theatre where two small glasses of prosecco and a 100gram tin of crisps will set you back £26 blumming quid. thanks Cameron Macintosh.)

Midthreademergencynamechange · 30/04/2018 19:03

I live in London and think £3.50 is a pretty hefty price actually.

I pay more like £2.50 to have in, in independent coffee shops.

ScreamingValenta · 30/04/2018 19:04

It's probably what I'd expect to pay in a coffee shop - which is why I rarely buy coffee. Definitely an occasional treat for me, rather than part of my routine. I take my own coffee into work.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 30/04/2018 19:04

I took a contact our for a coffee in holborn and it cost £5 for a cup of coffee. It wasn't even in a swanky hotel - just a big standard non chain coffee shop! I wasn't very impressed (and they didn't even stick a biscuit on the side)

TammySwansonTwo · 30/04/2018 19:04

For a Nespresso? From a pod?! I wouldn’t pay 50p. Bleugh.

viques · 30/04/2018 19:05

AND there was no where to sit down......... Leaves thread muttering

TawnyPort · 30/04/2018 19:07

Then you obviously know nothing about coffee.
