To have a nap in my car during my lunch break?

I'm 7 months pregnant and started to get very tired in the afternoons. I have a 2yr old who is waking in the night currently so that is not helping. I found it helps me focus better in the afternoons if I have a 20min power nap in my lunch break. My boss recently called me in and said he is not happy about me sleeping in my car as it looks bad on the organisation I work for. He told me i can use the meeting room at work. Office is a converted house in a residential area and the meeting room is the only space where others can eat lunch and be away from their desks. I would feel very uncomfortable having the room closed off to colleagues so I can sleep. My car is parked down the road from the office and I bring a blanket and set an alarm so I don't overrun my lunch hour. I told him I hear what he said but am planning on continuing to take lunchtime naps. AIBU?

I used to have delicious lunchtime naps.

Alas my workplace changed and I take the bus. I desperately miss that nap :(

Posted too soon...

I used to be an inspector of stuff in a rural setting.

I freely admit I. Used to plan my entire day around finding a nice lay-by to nap in. I have a neck pillow, a proper pillow and a blanket.

I use the front seat reclined rather than the back seat though.

Naps are one of the things I love about working at home. Not everyday, but sometimes to get over that dopey feeling.

Someone should invent something to make the front of a car more comfortable to sleep in and remove the risk of triggering the handbreak. I know you can recline seats but it isn't the same. In fact maybe my next car should just be a campervan, that would be useful.

God is it wrong that I feel so jealous of those who can take lunch break car naps !?! I can never fall asleep that quick Envy

Your boss is clearly a knob !

After returning to work with ds1 I used the first aid room to express. It conveniently had a small bed, curtains and the door locked. ‘‘Twas great. Express for 10 mins, sleep for 30 and still have time to eat.

Did the same for ds2, only by that time we had a special mother and baby room which had a lovely reclining chair.

If you’re happy then stick with it.

I wish I could car nap, I only get a 30 minute lunch break ☹

Mate, I used to go nap in the middle of a major shopping centre, wearing sunglasses, in the early stages of my last pregnancy. Utter peace and better than outdoors with the smokers! Best hour of my day!

Those nap pods look like a giant pac man eating some poor woman.

30 weeks and a 20 minute nap in the car makes such a difference to how I feel for the rest of the day. Also have a toddler. Just go away from the works car park.

I recommend 'windowsox' as they are the best screens I've ever had and render the back seat invisible! They go over the door so you can wind the window down and get a breeze through with no sun in your eyes, I love mine!

QuestionableMouse · 01/05/2018 22:12

I have a Zafira Tourer. Plenty of space in the back to nap.

OddestSock · 01/05/2018 22:24

I used to nap in one of the toilet cubicles when I was pregnant with my second.

A car nap would have been significantly more comfortable.

I agree with a PP who said your boss is feeling guilty. It doesn't sound like there was any malice there.
Carry on doing what you're doing Smile

I used to nap at work if I was exhausted! Lined 4 chairs up in a row and used a coat/hoodie/cardi for a pillow and set an alarm. I was so happy we then got a sofa. A colleague once fell asleep into a pile of coats in the stockroom and we left her to it as she was poorly at the time!

I agree with the poster who suggested splitting your lunch break, if you can bear it OP? Private nap without having to go out.
